View Full Version : SO Confused! Please help

06-22-2007, 11:31 AM
Hi, I am Extremely new to this.

I have no idea what some one would need to start to play Pacific Fighters. I haven't been able to find any game spescifications, or any place to buy this. Could Some one please tell me what an acceptable computer would be.

I have been playing FS2004 and not so much FSX(major game problems).for a long time.

I am very confused of what people are talking about with BOB and the likes.

So If some one could tell me what i need, where to get it, and how much this would all cost i would really apresciaate it.

Oh yeah, do you need to pay a monthly Fee for this. The game Fighter Ace 2/3 did so i never played online.

06-22-2007, 12:28 PM
How about this:

you post your current specs and we will tell you if you can play... ok? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

06-22-2007, 12:33 PM
Also, buy Il2:1946 dvd, this is the version everyone is playing. BoB is the upcoming new flight sim from the same maker as il2.

06-22-2007, 01:01 PM
If your pc can cope with FS2005 then its probably going to be ok for this game too assuming your not maxxing out all settings at high resolution...

Here is my computer

Processor Intel Pentium D 3390MHz (Core 2 Duo)
Display Card Intel(R) i945G (BAD BUILT INTO MOTHER BOARD http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif )
Memory 2048MB (RAM)
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Free Disk Space 27.81GB (that is the partitioned "C" drive (soon to be 15 GB higher when i uninstall FSX)
Display Card Memory 256MB
Display Driver Version
DirectX Version 9.0c
Optical Drive DVD
Sound Card SoundMAX Digital Audio

My Dad Says that we should be getting another Computer in a bout a year.

So which game is the new one Pascific fighter of IL2, i don't understand.

06-22-2007, 02:03 PM
Pacific Fighters is a sequel/add-on to Forgotten Battles, which was in turn an add-on to the original game, IL-2 Sturmovik. If bought by itself, it's a decent, but seriously flawed, flight simulator (not in terms of flight modeling, but in terms of limited planesets, maps, and game objects, mainly ships). When ''merged'' with Forgotten Battles/IL-2, it's a great flight simulator, with tons of planes and maps to fight on.

You will see people refer to ''1946'' or "IL-2 1946", or some combination thereof. This is a fully merged sequel to all of the above, and is the current game version which the people who lurk about these forums will be/are playing. EVERYONE will suggest you purchase this game, and most likely suggest you go here to buy it:

http://www.gogamer.com/IL-2-Sturmovik-1946-PC-Games_stc...444758VVviewprod.htm (http://www.gogamer.com/IL-2-Sturmovik-1946-PC-Games_stcVVproductId7274576VVcatId444758VVviewprod .htm)

06-22-2007, 03:18 PM
So IL-2 1946 is all of the previous simulators and add ons rolled into one?

Does this allow me to play online?

Thanks for all the quick help

I think i will buy this if my Computer will run it will Good Graphicks/ FPS

I just ordered my copy of 1946 and I'm still waiting for it...

I think your system can handle the game, but I'm not too sure about your videocard. You say it's built in to the motherboard, but still has 256 MB of memory? I've never heard of something like that...

06-22-2007, 04:08 PM
BOB is a game that has not been released yet. No noe can buy it right now.

IL-2 was released about 6 years ago. This game is no longer sold.

Forgotten Battles is an updated version of IL-2. It was sold 5 years ago.

Pacific Fighters was released 2 years ago. It can be merged with Forgotten Battles or installed alone. You can play it online at Hyperlobby, but few people play the Pacific Fighters game by itself.

IL-2 1946 is the last game in the IL-2 series. It has Pacific Fighters, Forgotten Battles and several other updates. BUY this one! You need a DVD drive to install the game.

Here is a link to the UBI store where they sell IL-2 1946. You should be able to order it online or buy it at computer stores or places like Wal-Mart.

Many people play IL-2 1946 online at hyperlobby. Hyperlobby is free to download and free to play.

You will need the 4.08 patch to play online. The patch is free.

The Computer is a 1 year old Dell Optiplex GX620

It's a really small under the counter computer with alot of power and speed

so if I can Find IL-2 1946 that is the one to buy?

06-22-2007, 04:42 PM
You actually have a very decent pc to play this game with, except for the video card. You will need a new one but you can get by with a budget card. This one should do nicely: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814153031
Also you may have better luck finding good video cards for great prices on ebay.com.

06-22-2007, 06:01 PM
Unfortunetly their are no "extra" slots on the computer, so the way the computer is, it the way it is. no upgrading http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

The computer is only 10" by 10" by 2 1/2.

So maybe I could tag along with my cousins to the mall and try Circut city or FYE.

So with the way the computer is, should I buy this?

06-22-2007, 07:06 PM
Its really not a decision we can make for ya, I would feel pretty bad if I told ya to buy it and your rig couldn't handle it. I would use 2 test cases:
1) how well your rig handles FS 2004 w/ pretty high graphics settings.

2) there is still a demo of an older version of IL-2.(3dgamers .com is a place to start) It is about 4 years old and I know it doesn't represent the '46 release, but it might give you an idea if it is worth a try as far as performance goes.

Good Luck, hope it works for ya, she is a great piece of software.

06-22-2007, 07:08 PM
According to Dell's wesite, yo have ths GPU:

That is not a 256 MB videocard. According to dell there IS an extra PCI-E bus. Are you sure that you're stil workng with the original videocard?

Please rigt click on your desktop - properties - settings tab - advanced. Look at the titlebar. It shws your main mnitor and your videocard.

06-23-2007, 05:07 AM
I's not quite a 256 meg 'card', but will use up to 224 meg.

Onboard video uses SYSTEM MEMORY, so anything that is allocated to the video card, is lost for applications.

If you can run FS2004 at fairly decent settings then you won't have any problen running IL2. IL2 doesn't need a lot of computer power to run. Looking at the 1946 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS I see:

Processor: Pentium III or AMD Athlon 1 GHz (Pentium 4 2.4 GHz Recommended)

RAM: 512K (1 GB recommended)

Videocard: DirectX 9 complient w/64MB RAM (128 MB recommended)

SUPPORTED VIDEO CARD AT TIME OF RELEASE: ATI RADEON 7500/8500/9000/9500/X series. NVIDIA GeForce 3/4/5/FX/6/7 series.

Ya gotta remember, this is a 4-5 year old game, and what was a high end system then is something of a dinosaur now, and pretty much any system sold new today is more than capable of running it.

06-23-2007, 06:58 AM
I'm just not sure the video'card' is supported...

Pacific Fighters Minimum System Requirements

Supported OS: Windows® 98/ME/XP/2000 (only)
Processor: Pentium® III or AMD Athlon™ 1 GHz (Pentium 4 2.4 GHz recommended)
RAM: 512 MB (1 GB recommended)
Video Card: DirectX® 9 compliant with 64 MB RAM (128 recommended)(see supported list*)
Sound Card: DirectX 9 compliant
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0 or higher
Hard Drive Space: 1.1+ GB
Multiplayer: Broadband Internet connection
Supported Video Cards at Time of Release

ATI Radeon 7000/8000/9000/X families
NVIDIA GeForce 256/2/3/4/FX/6 families
Matrox Parhelia
Intel GMA 925X/915P/915G chipsets
Laptop models of these cards NOT fully supported. These chipsets are the only ones that will run this game.

You have an Intel GMA 950, which is not listed.

06-23-2007, 08:01 AM
Hum.... so the video card is not supported by the game. darnit!

now i understand where the video cards memory is, its not onboard.

I'm thinking that maybe i should call Intell or Ubi or someone and ask.

I don't want aother FSX desaster (The game and Norton Crashed Windows)and then it was all screwed up after that for a while

you people have been alot of help really quick!!!

Any aditional help is apresciated.

06-23-2007, 03:01 PM
Your GPU is not LISTED. That doesn't always mean that it isn't SUPPORTED. The best thing to do is to contact Ubisoft on this matter. They should know. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

If it isn't supported, then make sure you really can't plug in another video card. As I said, I had a look over at Dell's site and it said there was an extra PCI-e slot in your PC... I just can't be sure until I have a look at your PC though... Is there any chance you can open the case and take a picture?

06-23-2007, 03:27 PM
I took some pictures, but it's tight in their!

How can i send them to you?

(I didn't see any empty space.)

06-23-2007, 03:37 PM
How can i send them to you?
Read this, and you can post 'm here!
How to post pictures on the forum and how to put one in your sig. (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/314103891?r=6221069363#6221069363)

06-23-2007, 06:58 PM
Well these probably arn't the nicest pictures ever shown on these forums, but here they are.

I didn't see any extra slots or the graphics "card" maybe it's on the other side of the mother board?

06-24-2007, 05:02 AM
Nope! I'm affraid it's not possible to add an extra card. Sorry...

That's a really small computer btw!

I'd say contact Ubi and ask if you can play the game with your current GPU. Or just buy it anyway... You said you will have a new computer in a year or so? If the game doesn't work on this one, just put it away somewhere and try it on the new computer. I think BoB will be out by then (I hope so!), but IL2 1946 will still be a nice game to play. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Pigeon, my mom madesure it was small, she hated it when the origional full tower was their http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Just a few more questions, the box of IL-2 1946 says that it is 5 games in 1. are these IL-2 and ALL the other "expansion packs" like FB Aces and PF?

I think that i will buy the game anyways and just hope it'l work, if not my neighbor nextdoor has a REALLY BIG comoputer that'l run anything.

Lets see...FB, Aces, Pacific Fighters, Pe-2, IL-10, and 1946. Thats sort of 6...although IL-10 and 1946 were never released separately...so yeah I guess 5. Actually it comes with the old IL-2 campaigns as well so its 6-7 games http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

But everything is rolled into one...so you really don't see 6 or 7 games but the content of all of those as part of one master game. The good thing about this is that all of the old aircraft have the newer flight model system (which is more realistic) and many various bug fixes and enhancements and so forth. So its one big huge game. Hopefully you can get it to work in some fashion or another.

06-24-2007, 08:28 AM
You mentioned visiting Circuit City. The game is only $20 there.

As someone else mentioned...you could always buy it and set it aside until you get a new system.

I have a sneaky suspicion it will work though...

06-25-2007, 01:43 PM
It's no more demanding than FS2004, so if that works on your PC IL2 should work fine as well.

06-25-2007, 07:11 PM
I'm Gonna buy it next time i go to the mall with my cousins.

thanks for the help

06-26-2007, 05:32 AM
I really hope it works! Good luck! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

07-02-2007, 06:50 PM
still waiting to go to the mall...

07-02-2007, 08:49 PM
Well, get a move on boy! Time's a wastin'!!

07-03-2007, 08:08 AM
I am running a 945 chipset with 1946 it will run,but you may have to turn the video settings down to high.

07-03-2007, 09:40 AM
well i went to the mall and cheched out Circut City... well they raised the price its $30 now... I only had $25 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

so that was a wasted shoping trip waiting for my cousins to pick out some cloths http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

Yes http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif i'm constantly telling people thats its one "L" not 2. It really stinks when the school spells your name wrong on your ID card

But wat really makes me mad is when Every one calls me "Phil" after i correct them for the millionth time, its Philip not phil http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

I tryed one of the career missions and i think that i officially stink at this... gonna need aLOT of practice.

thanks for the links, i will have to read those

07-07-2007, 11:53 AM
lol...roger that. Phil I can handle...I just hate correcting people all the time...not their fault though...I blame my parents!

Practice is good! Seriously...start out with Zeus-cat's training missions. They'll really move you ahead so you can get on to the fun stuff...

07-08-2007, 06:01 PM
Before you practice carrier takeoffs and landings, try to takeoff from land runways. I suggest you practice using the Hurricane as a beginner plane or the BF-109E. Both planes are very forgiving especially the 109.

Once you get the takeoff part down, then you can practice landings, which in some cases are harder than dogfighting.

A great way to learn is to join a squad or at least practice with other people. If you want to join a squad, mine is accepting new members.

We are an German squad who fly the Fw-190 primarily in Forgotten Skies.(Virtual Online tournament).

If you wish you could stop by, we have practice every Wednesday at 9:30PM EST. If you are interested, i can talk to my squad leader to see if he will let you come practice with us.

Just out of curiosity. How old are you?
Im just wondering, because im only 17.

I'm going to be a junior in High school this year, and im 16 and a half.
