Just wondering, what aircraft most closely resembles the spitfire in terms of performance, and firepower?

well the yak dosnt have the firepower, 2 20mms, and 2 .50s, or 2 20mms and 4 .303s, or 4 20mms was much more powerful than yaks, the mk Vc with 4 20mm cannons had 12 seconds fireing time http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

I know, but the all-round flight behaviour is pretty similar /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

what like a yak3 with a slower rollrate and more ensitive elevators.

Salute

Spitfire V would perform similarly to the original FB 1.0 Hurricane II's, although perhaps a little faster.

And high altitude capability that the Yaks do not have......

Sounds about right...the Hurricanes do perform decently at higher altitudes. The MK IIB does anyways...at 5000 meters it seems to fly fairly nicely...although in battle it usually stays around 300-380kph.

Its a good plane to fly around for a bit, even if its not in serious combat.

The Spitfires I can't wait for. Even the Mark V should be a fairly serious threat.

for spit vs 109 the higher u got the bigger the spits advantage. The clipped spit should outroll a yak3 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

the mkIX should be great. the LF version had its best speed at around 4000-some meters 16,000ft 657kph should OWN the 109s and be on par or better in some areas vs the 190. and when the mkXIV comes there will be NO axis compitition, PERIOD.

I'm no expert, but when I'm in the mood for a mock Spit, I usually fly the modified Hurricane mk II. It has two 20mm cannon, the same gunsight and that Merlin sound (close enough). It's slower, but maybe it's comparable to a
Spit V with a Volkes filter???

Either that or I can just break out my trusty Janes WWII figters and play with Rammjager's mk XIV (Great skin!)

one thing that puzzles me is if we get a spit mk1 - what will it's turn rate be like?

the reason i say this is due to the partly true "myth" of the spit out-turning the Bf109E. now many people will have heard this - but yet the spits advantage is not anywhere near as much as most would think - i have read reference to this in a few books and IIRC many of the say it could out turn if flown with determination - and possibly by holding on the edge of a high speed stall.

if this is true - then the spit must be not very good at turning in FB as the 109e isn't that good( if i remeber rightly)
