I got IL2 1946 just today. I have played before but never had the chance to get into it. It's a little daunting! can anyone give me a tip of a good plane and career area to start in to ease the learning curve?

Lerche,shlerche.

Fast, aren`t you?Already trying out campaigns, huh? Are you another troll perhaps.

Nevermind.

I recommend playing Quick Mission Builder alot.

Play with difficulty settings to suit your skills.

For new guy I`d say Hurricane is a good plane. Not too good or bad, stable and maneuverable.

Just launch a generic mission and play with the plane.Try doing turns, dives, rolls, yanks and stuff. If you do not fall off the sky,try punching up difficulty a bit.

First off,you need to be able to control the plane as in using your joystick properly.

Come back when you have that done.

That`s it for now.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Welcome young padwan. The p40 is meant to be a good plane to learn the ropes on. The Spitfire, La5 and La7 are also good beginners planes but are frowned upon buy the more hardcore members of the community due to their N00bness.
Depends what difficulty level you start with aswell, I only switched on Complex engine management after about a year, although it really shouldn't take that long as its not really that complex. Take a look at the stickies on page one for hints and tips and don't be afraid to ask questions.
Oh and if you try the Lerche don't forget you're Lightsabre http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

.

no i am not a troll, although i am pretty new here in the IL2 forums. I am a silent hunter 3 player and am trying new stuff now. although haven;t posted over in the silent hunter forum in a while much, been off doing other games.

Thanks for the advice on the planes, i've been trying a few missions in the campaign, don't think i'm doing too badly but i'm not doing good at all. Will try the quick mission builder for practice and stick with planes you have suggested until i now more about the different ones.

Certainly is a far cry from slowly plodding along, sneaking, sweating and laying up torpedo runs in U-123 in the middle of the atlantic. I have some knowledge of the aircraft but only from SH3.

I hate those hurricane bombers in SH3, can never seem to shoot the pesky things down with my flak turrets, even on a U-flak!

Just installed the new GWX expansion after i reinstalled windows because my computer was running slow as hell(AMD 4200+ dual core, 2 gig ram 7800GTX), had a virus and had loads of rubbish everywhere. Now it runs smooth as the smoothest thing you can think of.

Never had a problem in the week i've been using grey wolves but i must say it's a lot harder then stock game. Most are keen to help over there with any problems you have, and i've always had a good experience with the SH3 forum.

This forum seems a lot more active though. Just waiting for silent hunter IV to come out that looks awesome!

As long as SHIV has a bit more diversity in the mission objectives I'll consider buying after having read the forums. I still throw it on from time to time but the thrill has wained after the 100th convoy.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Try the P40 option of the Leningrad campaign. Don't expect too much. An average of 1 kill per mission is very good.

Trident, if you are used to the slow sub-fighting, you might enjoy bombing. There are some some very nice light bombers in this sim (A-20, Ju-88, He 111) which are all a joy to fly. "C" will let you change between the pilot and gunners positions.

If you don't like the skitterish fighters like Hurricane and P-40, you can't go wrong with the Russian IL2. It's an attack plane (don't try to dogfight in it!) and it's slow, heavy and genrally very nice to fly.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Fly friendly!
