View Full Version : Aces' Artwork: IL2-MAT Manager - Some Exciting News

Hi folks,

Back from a very enjoyable and much needed holiday. I never realised how tired I was until we went away.

Now for the news:

I'm really excited to announce that, thanks to the great work by Aero Shodanjo with MAT file parameters and TGA files it is now possible to impliment alpha channel transparacy (opacity really) in aircraft markings. Something that I've been trying to crack for a long time. I have edited all of my MAT and TGA files to incorporate these new parameters. It takes quite a few hours to do over 200,000 file operations http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif but it's done and I'll be creating an installer to send to the beta testers later. Please note this is still somewhat experimental work and things might need to be tweaked along the way but I'm very happy with my findings to date.

I have always maintained that IL2-MAT Manager is a real team effort. It works because others have taken time and effort to experiment such as the excellent work done by Mc Wolf with the lighting effect parameters and those who have produced some excellent markings such as Extreme-One's RAF and USAAF lettering and UF Jose who produced those great weathered hinomaru markings.

I'll shall probably re-do my full program installer to include the all new MATs and TGAs and the latest program version (2.33) as I do not have the web space to house another 28MB file.

I'll keep you posted on the latest news, in the meantime please address your comments to the excellent work done by Aero Shodanjo. I think this is a really exciting advance in MAT Manager markings.

Best Regards

Aces - can you just hardwire a connection from your site to my PC and just send it directly to my FB folder, shortcutting all that messy downloading stuff...sure would be simple & I know I'd like everything you do ( still waiting for ability to do kill markings & ability to put girlfriend's pic in my Messershmitt!

Now that's some good news! When Shodanjo came out with his revelation I did not think you would implement it because of the magnitude of files that need to be covered. Hats off to both of you! Pint of guiness for Aces and Sateh with Babi Pangang for Shodano!

Hi James,

I'll give it some thought buddy http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif, I like being a supplier of aircraft markings to a film star, how cool is that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Hi BigC208,

What's doing 200,000 find and replace file operations plus 5000 TGA files edited between friends LOL.

Full credit to Aero Shodanjo for his amazing work on this. They should be available pretty soon. Still have testing to do with the beta testers and probably some "tweaking" but shouldn't be too long.

Cheers to all,

Star? Errrrr.... that may be pushing my current status of unpaid, unrecognizable extra....but I do get a second or two of screen time shooting at big monkey.....Also I was able to help on the correct markings of U.S. Navy 1930 aircraft...so maybe I wear two hats;walk-on inept actor ,& part time technical consultant...
By the way what do you think of the new BoB Wings of Victory? Looks like they might need you help, down the road!

LOL Jim http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif,

At least you got to shoot at the monkey http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif more than I'll ever do http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

I havenb't had a chance to buy BoB yet as we only got back from hols late Saturday evening, I'll try and buy my copy tomorrow if it's in my local shop. I really want to get this one, been looking forward to it a lot.

I'n the meantime here's another quick screenshot of the new transparency in action.

Cheers all
