View Full Version : OT - Which new (newer) car for Goose_Green?

It has been a long time coming and of late I have been considering a change in car. My trusty and fantastic & fun Escort RS2000 is starting to show it's age, well the body work is anyway, and I'm seriously considering a change for something newer.

I have always admired some of the latest sporty models Ford have been producing of late, especially the Fiesta ST. Which, believe it or not has the same performance as my current motor, a 2 litre zetec engine chucking out 150bhp!

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n235/Goose_Green/33.jpg

But, I have always liked the Audi's especially the A3 and the TT. With some quick looks on Auto Trader I have noticed they are cheaper to buy second hand than first thought. I think it's time to break the Ford mold and go for something German instead.

I quite like the TT 1.8 Quattro which pushes out 225bhp and costs the same to insure as my Escort and there are some within my price range to.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n235/Goose_Green/ImageDisplay.jpg

Or, I could be sensible and go for the A3 instead and find one of the sporty ones like another 2 litre turbo.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n235/Goose_Green/srcAudi-A3-3-door-2003-017a.jpg

Question is, do I go for the sporty and nutty TT 1.8 Quattro or the sensible A3?

Why dont you take a Aston Martin DB9 rather than that ugly Audi TT. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

6 liter V12. Oh this sweet noise http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/inlove.gif

What's the insurance groups like on those Goose?

Personally, I'd go for the TT.

Is that because you want to wind him up about looking like a hairdresser http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

Anything but the TT http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

There are also sport versions of the A3 available (140-170hp 2.0 TDI). Dont know what they cost though.

I thought it was the other way round! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif I thought hair dressers had the A3? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Goose, my preference would be for the A3 (pref. the 2 litre), but from an aesthetic point of view, I think the type of alloy wheels on an A3 either make it or break it. I really like this kind of style:

I must say I like the TT also, especially in red.

I'd expect the insurance costs for both would be similar.

BTW, have you seen the preview of the 2010 TT design?

Audi TT 2010 (http://www.topspeed.com/cars/audi/-2010-audi-a3-ar39224.html).

I really like the styling from the back, but I prefer the front on the current TT:

Thanks for the replies so far http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I had guessed the hairdresser comment would soon make an apperance http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I have been doing some research on the TT, and the specs are quite interesting, mind you I need to test drive one to be honest, just to be sure I like it and I can be comfortable in it after all!

Looks great !

All the new Audis will have the daylight LED bands beyond the lights just like the A5 and S5.

These aswell as other small interior features like the leather come from Lamborghini which Audi bought a while ago. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Although people will think your a hairdresser or an estate agent the car itself seems good.
Even Jeremy Clarkson liked it when they tested the soft top version in Iceland.
He even liked the flappy paddle gear shift with it's 2 clutches http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif.
It wouldn't be my choice but a still a good one.

Can't interest you at all in looking at the Alfa Romeos, similar price and very sporty, nothing matches for style either.

Group 18 insurance for the Quattro, and I did a quote on a 03 plate. It will cost me about 350 full comp including all the extras, so in all a very reasonable quote http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif It's about 80 more than my Escort RS2000, which is the really surprising thing http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

@Andy

I'm not disputing the looks of the Alfa's but they really don't flick my switch to be honest. An old friend of mine used to rave about his 146, and I'm not denying the styling either - besides that's what the Italians are good at after all http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Well I would have the Audi TT however I don't have the money for that, so I have

An Astra 2.0 Turbo SRi....170b.h.p. Great car for the money.....but not as 'hot looking' as some others.

Just a quick story....have a mate who came into moeny from a business that he sold....so he decided he wanted to treat himself to a Aston Martin DB9....so he did...

went the Dealership...ordered it and paid for it

ON HIS SWITCH CARD!!!!!!!!!!

Talk about 'taking the p@ss'

Jaguar XK R
Now come on, car of your dreams?

The 2002 models can go for as little as 20k which must be about the same as any nearly new Audi titty.

Yes, I'm also from time to time thinking of a new car, but for the time being I'll stick to what I have, it's fast (very fast) and fun to drive. If you can't recon. it from the pic, it's an Alfa Romeo GTV V6 TB with 230 BHP.

Although a bit out of my price range - I had never thought of a 350Z. I have always liked those cars and considered them way out of my reach.

If you go back to an 01/02 plate on auto trader they're considerably cheaper again . . . . http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Still can't see when looking at those cars that anyone could pick anything other than the Brera.

Oh well, all out of my budget http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif
