View Full Version : Pilot kill from Dora fragments - is this new in 4.01m?

I was chasing a FW 190D in a Yak 3P offline. I was close (50-100m) and hitting the Dora with multiple shells when my screen suddenly went black. When I checked the track I saw that the Doras tailfin was slightly damaged but no control surfaces or other large debris had fallen off. The Yak looked untouched but there was a yellow cloud (fireball) coming off the Dora and passing my Yak when the PK occured. Also there was a strange starlike light on the antenna of the Yak at this moment.

So has the Dora some secret weapon to kill a chasing enemy? Has anybody else experienced this? Is this rare and/or new with 4.01m?

This really adds to the excitement of chasing an enemy and is probably realistic but quite a rare incident.

Just to make it clear. It was not a collision and there were no other planes present, and the Dora never had an oppoertunity to fire at me.

Many times in QMB 1v1 and no AA dogfight, when I was 'sticky' to enemy fighter's 6 I have saw arrows on my plane when I hit the enemy fighter in front of me. I had arcade mode=1 in conf.ini, so that shows the damage dealt to the objects.

I remember one particular time when I chased FW-190 in MiG-3... I have shoot him up with 7,62s on point blank distance and suddenly I saw large arrow in the nose of my aircraft.

That must be ricochet bullet/fragment.http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif No secret weapons installed.http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I have just never been unlucky like you with this sort of things.

Not sure about pilot kills, but I can recall taking engine damage from debris since at least version 2.04.

Did you record a track? Would be interesting to see.

In 3.04, exploding VVS planes were a serious threat. I think there was even a thread in ORR about it because Yaks, in particular, would have a habit of exploding as though they had a bomb inside and taking out your pilot even from 400m or so. I've not noticed it much in 4.01 but I've not been flying as much.

debris will definetly kill you in 4.01 if that plane you've destroyed explodes to close to you after the engagement. lost a vetran pilot in this capacity when an i16 exploded into a fireball after putting a few shells into him from 20-30 meters away. i learned my lesson. in 4.01m, i break off the pursuit once I get within 50 meters and I begin to see smoke.

I have a track, 5 minutes long, but I don't know an efficient way of posting it.

PS. It is a lot of embarassing flying so I wouldn't fancy it falling in the wrong hands... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

It`s a great touch, isn`t it? The fact that debri from an aircraft can damage your plane or even kill the pilot. Funnily enough, I was flying online with a squad m8 on thursday and we both attacked an HE111. We were really close, about 50-100m and firing at him - the combined firepower of our guns blew up the thing right in front of us. But we both flew threw it with no damage! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Neither of us were recording at the time. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Yes this has occured to me, I have also gone down in flames after blowing up a Russian fighter & flying through the exploding debris. This never occured to me before 4.01,(however I had never shot down a Russian Yak 3 in a virtical climb chase before either)

Quite often I hear hits on my plane when shooting and just passing by enemy plane. I guess that are fragments from my own projectiles. I mean here very close distances.
Also it happened once, that enemy plane exploded above me, like 300m higher, from someone elses fire. I observed debris, including horizontal stab, which moments later hit my plane and tore my wing away http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

In 3.04 I blew up after nailing a P-40 at very close range. Didn't notice fragments hitting me, I think I actually got him in one burst of cannon fire. I posted about it here and guys came up with the idea that shockwaves are modelled. Don't know if it is true or accurate but it was quite a cool touch.

Also when you are nose-over, and your machine guns are pointing in ground, sometimes you can hear hits on your aircraft if you fire your machine guys, that is also kinda 'ricochet'...

I was chasing a P-40 at close range in a Ki43 on-line one night. I put some hits on the P-40s engine causing it to stop. When the pilot released his canopy, it hit my propellor, bending the blades and stopping the engine.

I also took a pilot kill on-line one night from what I believe was a stray bullet. I was trying to sneak under a furball to hit ground targets. The furball was at about 3000 meters, and I was on the deck with no other aircraft around as far as I could tell. I was taking a look up from time to time to make sure someone didn't jump me, when suddenly I heard the "pop" of a bullet hitting my plane and the screen instantly went black.

Hey vocatx are you sure that was released canopy that had hit your aircraft? If that is so, it is unbelievable (I mean your bad luck) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
Otherwise I think there is a possibility that you have 'rammed' a pilot that has bailed.
