Here you go, my attempt to create a realistic looking seafloor mod. I have created it through cut, crop and pasting from several of my own photographs made in Denmark and Sweden! It comes in three versions: for 64 mb videocards, 128mb and 256mb. I have created the mod folders in a manner, so you just have to move it to the MODS folder created by JSGME to enable the mod!

I hope you enjoy it!

PS: Following my own philosophy about mod-making, this mod may be used freely by others and modified freely by others, as long as you mention me as the original creator in a readme! Thank you!

WIP: alternative sea floor mod

I have made some screens of the mod!
Don't know yet, whether this will be final version, but so far I think, it looks good!
What do you think?

This is only the sand version! The stone version is not yet in work!

12 screenies:

It's the same water transparacy as in GWX-TA, so you have it allready like that! I tried to do the screencaps in daylight. The first till the periscope shot were daylight in sunny weather, the rest in daylight but with dark clouds!

Looks like some interesting work, if you have your water density low enought to enjoy it. I think it also gives the sh4 players returning to the game some feel good turf so to say.

Not bad,
but I will still keep what I think its the
best ever created seafloor mod until the date...

Tankeriv seafloor mod 64/128 mbs cards is by
far the best ever done....

I have tried putting in some more "green" on it! Not really completely satisfied, but here's two screenshots:

Then I have been working on a stone version as well. I have made 5-6 attempts before this one and deleted them all! They looked like cr4p, when I was finished, which made me wonder, whether it would be another waste of time to try again, when the final attempt ended up quite okay! Okay, I mean: I love this final attempt that I think fine-tuning is all that it needs! What do you think?

Nice. too nice it is draged down by the poor SHIII sea flor.

Just posting thumbs of the images:

Sand version without the pasted green areas:

Sand version with the pasted green areas:

I'm actually NOT very satisfied with the green version, but somebody asked for some green! Will see if I can do better! Otherwise the "green-less" version will appear!

Stone version:

For both cases, sand and stone, there is some sort of kaleidoscope effect. This is one of the side effetcs, when I do as I do: use two copies - horizontal and/or vertical - of one image - correct and mirrored/flipped. This is done so that the borders of the image doesn't create too clear a border, where two copies of this texture line up to eachother, which has been the case with other textures.

As said before, I have used some of my own real photos to create these textures, and the immersion effect is soo much bigger, I think. So I'll go out and take some photos of dirty earth and grass too, to see if the textures of the land will improve with that! I think they will! So it may turn out as some sort of environmental texture mod....

Coratio, these look very nice, but what is the performance like (FPS) around ports? and what is your machine spec?
Im just concerned because past sea floor texture mods have caused massive drops in FPS - especially around ports.
Obviously it depends on the size of the TGA files them selves...

They look very good indeed. I think that if you try to improve it, you will be waisting your time. It's fine as it is, IMHO. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
Thanks a lot and hope to hear from you soon.

The files will be packed so that you can choose between 4 versions: for 64mb, 128mb, 256mb and 512mb video cards.

The FPS in ports, don't really remember, but I think it's about 60-80 with the 256mb version!

This mod will be more like an environmental mod as it seems, cause I have thrown myself over the moon as well now...

In my mod of the moon, it will not only be adjusted by period in size, as in all other moon mods, but now also in colour. Sometimes it will be like red = new moon (no light from sun) and white = full moon (all enlightened by the sun), and sometimes yellow (mostly lightened by the sun, but effected by the atmosphere of the earth).

I only have two screens now, which is from moonphase 14 out of 16. So far, I think it looks good! What do you think, also about the idea of changing colours?

About the sand floor, I have made another one, a new one. Wasn't satisfied with the first shown. Will post screens later...

This is beta, not gold!

The images of the moon are photos of my own, made 2 nights ago, when the moon was full here in Denmark. I made some photos with a 300mm zoom with different settings on my camera from 1/8 to 1/60 seconds with 5.6 to 8 "* = don't know the word for this in english". When I watched the moon with my own eyes, it truely had a very yellow apperance!

I agree however that the moon mostly is white!

So as a test, I made a mod with several moon phases in different colours, and I know it's extreme, but I wanted to see this ingame!

Two shots showing the moonphases (from another moon mod) and then my modified moon mod - and this is still only beta!

And maybe the samples of white should be enlarged and yellow+red reduced, will see about that. But now you can compare, when you'll see what!

Here are then four more ingame shots:

Halfway night/day off the coast of Norway in may:

Periscope zoom 10x, edit is necessary - one can see the black circle around the moon...

Two shots from an assault on a sitting convoy, again off Norway, May, about 2-4 AM:

I still don't have ingame shots from fullmoon examples sofar...

Okay again, this is beta! Will however use it myself for a while to test it further...

The word is "apperiture" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I somehow find the yellow-ish moon a bit odd.
I know it happens from time to time, but mostly in landlocked places.
The main cause to this are human made smog and other inpurities in the sky.

The thing is, my shots were made inland, but I have seen this phenomenon at the seaside here in Denmark as well. Though the moon appeared more green than yellow at that time...

yeah, but I'm not God, Allah, Jehova, Buddha or any other divine person, so I have other duties and interests to attend to as well, and right now my interest is to work on my personal photo site, not the mod-site.

06-06-2007, 08:51 AM
lmao...just messing with ya .... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/touche.gif

06-06-2007, 10:35 AM

I feel the pressure of interest, so I have finished first version and packed the mod.

It will be uploaded shortly...

Excelent will try it out soon, thanks.

06-07-2007, 08:08 AM
Downloaded your sea floor mod, it looks great, very good, is there anyway that it could be used in SH4, as it is much better than stock, just curious, im playing SH3 more than 4 these days, thanks for all your hard work, cheers.

06-07-2007, 08:20 AM
Don't know yet, I haven't played or looked much at SH4 because of the bugs and faulty dev support, and my main interest is the western scenario not the eastern.
But maybe yes...

06-07-2007, 08:45 AM
Thanks for your quick reply, i too dont use sh4 much these days, prefer sh3 atm, pity sh4 could of been so much, well still could i guess, but sh3 rocks for me, cheers.
