You know, there's a sticky topic at the top of this forum that is for suggestions like this.

Those flames would be wrong in most places. In reality they were hardly ever visible exept for some planes during engine startup and at night.
The lighting at night is crappy enough as it is, let's not make even more inaccuracies.0
The BOB engine is what the coders should be working on now, not somewhat useless eyecandy

It would be nice to see the occasional stab of flame and a good trail of smoke at full throttle.

But this would need to come near the bottom of the priority list and be assigned to the office 'tea boy'.

The Merlin released petty impressives flames at startup in daylight..It was common with that engine.

That'd be a useful gameplay element for sure. That way you could tell the state of the foes engine and it might force a few people to back off on the maximum boost all the time. Sometimes black or white smoke would come from the engine too...a very thin trail.

109s were notorious for spewing a thick trail of dark smoke at full throttle...

P-38s also had the turbos on the tops of the booms that glowed cherry red.

I have an idea - why is everyone cringing?...

Why not take the ol' muzzleflash and stick it in the exhaust manifold?...sure - it'll be like old times again and since they were already coded into the game at one time- they dont have to be recreated - just re-applied....simple hehehe

Well, how about linking the exaust smoke to the complex engine management so if you've got your mixture over rich you start trailing bluish white smoke?
