Until I saw the short spot on TV tonight announcing his death I had forgotten some of the things he did. A great man.

The stories I've read about his indomitable spirit are an inspiration. S'

He came on my ship back in 95, gave him a tour of my spaces and got to shake his hand and talk to him. He was a great man....and a humble one too. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

yup, I cant imagine being that strong....shot down on his 200th misn, gets tortured and put in solitary for 3 yrs of his 8 yrs as a pow, bloodies his own face to keep the nva from using him in a progaganda film, then when he thinks hes gonna crack, he tries to teminate himself to keep from giving up any secrets...

really big shoes for our military people to fill.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

we really need a smily that salutes....... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

About 2 million Vietnamese , including women and children, are waiting on €œthe other side€ to have a €œtalk€ with him.

Glad that he€s gone!

..... Not to put too fine a point on it, but please spare me all the tiresome political posturing. A good man passed away.

I was willing to let this thread slip quietly to page 2, and then into the archives. It is understandable as this man belongs to an older generation, of which I am a member.

Any child can see human fraility, but maturity allows us to forgive and see beyond that, to see the good in others. Adm. Stockdale has left us, for a place where our judgements have no validation.

Let us exercise our maturity, and let the higher powers judge, as he is now in their safe keeping.
