Happy Times single mission. Type XXI (1945). See how much you can sink. Best I've done is 106,000 tons. Next best is 101,000 tons. Any realism above 40%. I'd be interested in your scores. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

You get a nice assortment of torpedos and dumb DD's (at first). Like walking into a candy store. With fast reloads on the XXI it only takes about a half an hour.

Try slipping past Gibraltar. That's the real test of a U-boat Kaptain. I've been trying off and on with same mission for 3 days. I've been detected, attacked for 3 realtime hours by air and sea by a total of 8 PT boats and a combination of 12 destroyers and corvettes.. Slipped away only to be attacked again by a single destroyer. We've been as low as 157 meters and still depthcharged, using a VIIC/40. This is a tough nut to crack. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Results so far... damage to flak guns, minor. Damage to Conn, minor. Realism is 52% so I can see what's going on above. Reason for attacks, I sank a Hunt1 Destroyer just for giggles and grins with my only acousticle torpedo from 1900 meters to see how good a job it does. And it do do a good job. LOL Draws in every stinking enemy in from miles around. I've a feeling we be scrod, real soon.

BTW, do not use a XXI. That's too easy. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Gibralter is not so tuff. My perscription for your headache is run periscope depth, run silent, run at speed setting one (dont recall offhand what speed that is). I often remove my sonar man from station to keep from being knocked out of TC because of contacts. Give it a try. Its not 100% fool proof, but I'll bet its in upper 90's!
Im running a VIIC btw.

Gibralter? Try that trick of yours in 1943, just leave me your wallet and ATM card pin number before you leave.

Failure!! Oh woe is me!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif
Gave it a try and scored a miserable 92k-t. The harsh truth is that my tactics sucked, I wasted torps firing too far and having to re-shoot on some heavies, got discombobulated and couldn't remember which ships I'd hit/damaged, so had to shoot fresh ones. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I can improve tactics on a 2nd try, but ultimately, I think the high score will come from the most luck on 1-shot-kills on C2's, something I don't excell at. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

gibraltar is easy.

wait for a storm.

so like 48hrs at most.

You wait for a storm to simply get into gibralter or past it? I wait to get rid of storms, whats wrong with you????

Sarge, I gave it my best, 98,642k.
Had 3 duds and 2 wounded ships I couldnt take down due to lack of fish or I would have been really close. I got detected once but eluded the DD in a few minutes. I waxed out all the large stuff right off and a few DD had to go sicne they got too close but I did my best. Still had 100 percent on my hull though but still didnt beat ya &^$%&**(##!!!! Was fun though.

Good job, man. It's really a great exercise. I start it and go to periscope depth and head west with time compression. When at the leading edge of the convoy turn north and start shooting long distance. It's easy to get run over too. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

NOt me I just swam up in there after taking out the aux cruiser and started spanking ships left and right, did a circle in the convoy nailing everything, greased a couple DD on my way to finish off wounded ships, the duds appeared and I was empty.

Half the time I only get 45,000 to 75,000. I get impatient and like doug said, it's easy to forget who you fired at.

Smack that juicy aux cruiser first then work your way down the line of tankers, circle behind and back towards the front and grease the heavy cargo's then return to the northern ship line, wax the cargos there and return back south and finish off the fish you got left and escape the same route, thats what I did, oh and dont set FAT runs, use them strictly for direct hits, that was one of my mistakes.

Sgt_Starbuck
07-23-2005, 08:03 AM
I use the FAT pattern and set it 500m past the target. I take out the 2 tankers in back first along with the Aux cruiser. Small merchants and C2's will intercept a lot of torpedos and will try to run you over. I've learned a lot by doing this mission.
