This question refers to Offline missions. I'm having trouble controlling my wingman in the target area... I've experimented with the padlock commands but can't get them to work. I have Vista 64, IL2 Sturmovik 1946 updated, the latest Trackir and CH Controllers (Stick, Throttle and Pedals). I've been creating missions for several years but have never quite figured out how to control my wingman so that they will strike the targets intended. Usually they carry their weapons home. I can change formation and can control changing waypoints. I can even get them to rejoin when the try to breakaway to address fighters early. I just can't get them to strike targets in the target area? Help.

Hi Sdreagan

I find that when you padlock a target and use the attack my target radio command it works the best.
I am not sure what will help if you fly with the target padlock turned off.
The A1 follow orders commands leave a lot to be desired.

Are you ordering them to attack the appropriate ground targets just as you reach the target area?

Just completed a mission where we took out a couple of truck columns. I found that if I instructed the first flight (2) to attack ground targets (6) and then selected the appropriate type (in this case, vehicles, 4), they cooperated beautifully.

Of course, we were attacking the designated target in the target area; I've had problems getting them to hit targets of opportunity in the past.

cheers

Thanks FoolTrottel.

That is exactly what I was trying to explain.
The link you provided does a much better job than I did.

Bookmarking it for my own future reference.

How do you know what target is padlocked?

When the target is padlocked there will be a triangle around it.

Try padlocking a few enemy aircraft first.
You can follow them more easily than a ground target.

Padlock Enemy is F4
Padlock Enemy Ground is F5

If you don't have a Quick-Reference Card for the control commands there should be one on your DVD that you can print out.

OK, I've got that... I guess there is a setting that I long ago turned off (for realism) that I'll have to turn on again... I'm guessing that it's ICONs or something in the CONF file?

Turn off the No Padlock switch in the difficulties setting.
This will allow the padlock to work.

Your wingman will respond pretty well tactically but you have to be within visual ID range.

It's no good asking him to clear your six if you are 8 k's apart.

Try the Gentille&Godfred tacitcs of exchanging lead during an attack and keep tabs on how far you are from your WM.
