Where was this in NZ? Cambridge in the north or South Island? Also, when was it? I would love to be back home in time to see something like this -it's absolutely unheard of!

Hood aerodrome is outside Masterton

I think it was a remembrance day thing.

Cant wait for wings over Wairarapa next January, most if not all of these are going to be there http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Also Omaka has a huge WWI airshow each year ...or maybe 2. its the show that had 7 Jasta 11 Fokker Dr1s flying together.

I actually prefer the looks of the SE5a over the Spad myself. The SE looks very streamlined except for the flat box like front, which is the only thing that bothers me a little bit, but as you can see it has its purpose by being full of radiators. The Spad is a little too bloaded looking to me for it to be one of my absolute favs.

Pictures are great, btw thanks Tyke. I know the Dr.I's are all replicas, I am guessing all of them are replicas? I don't think any real WWI planes fly anymore.. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Not that I care.. They look freakin awesome. This company made a few Nieuports for the movie Flyboy, the airplanes look great:

the pic HayateAce posted, I saw it in one of my 2003 flight journals. I may be wrong but is it in New York perhaps? Love the pics by the way!

The bristol fighter in those shots is a genuine one, one of 2 or 3 flying, all the rest pictured are replicas, except maybe the Phaltz which was used in "the blue max", it maybe original.

In NZ there no need for a pilots license to fly one as its not considered an 'aeroplane' in the eyes of the law, only a microlight.
Hence why theres so many in NZ, shame the Sopwith tripe isnt there.

I went when i was around 11... possibly the most interesting airshow/action show i have ever seen. I wish i had taken pics (or had a camera when i went) but i hope to go again sometime.

If you get the chance... definately go.

The last flyable WWI was mentioned in Aeroplane magazine I believe...it's laying about somewhere. It was a German recon two seater, complete with that gorgeous hex camo pattern. If I recall, they stopped flying it because the insurance liability simply became too great.

I want to live in a place where they let you strap Lewis guns to your Ultralight http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif, but I guess they only let you do that if you use them to get rid of those nasty introduced wallabies and magpies!

Wow! How does New Zealand get so many great warbirds? The whole country is only 4 million people. Are there that many in the whole of the states?

Thanks for posting this Galway.

That is beyond Top Shelf, in both aircraft and filmwork.
