I´ve tried the various versions of the ME 109 in IL 2 FB AEP. And the one I am most comfortable in terms of maneuvering is the ME 109 F-4. However there are two major elements which make it incomplete, firstly the engine power, and secondly its firepower.
Would there be a way to adapt the engine on the ME 109 G-6 Late (1943) to the ME 109 F-4 along with the Mk 108 nose cannon while keeping the lighter weight of the F-4? Is the difference in weight between the two models due to the engine size and armament, or was the later version fitted with extra armor? My aim would be to combine the "lightness" of the F-4 with heavier firepower and engine performance. Any customizers out there who could make this possible? Thanks for your time.

First, Welcome to these board.
It is not possible to "mix" the planes, but as an interim you could try the G2, it seems quite balanced between the two,l aldough it lacks the punch of the G6, and has awfull rear visibility. My advice it would be to stay with the G6, but that is just a subjective opinion, try them all and pick the one it suits you best. Anyway, you shouldn't engage in TnB fight in a 109.

That would be a G-14AS but we don't have them. We do have a G-6AS though.

The BF-109K4 is the best plane. It can out turn all.

Hey Robin, now that you've found out the new best plane isn't it time that you changed your sig?

http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif -> Bf-109.

Ahem... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The loss of turn rate was a direct result of increasing the firepower and speed/climb. There is no way to do what you (the thread starter) suggest. They tried and the later, heavier ones, were the result. So I don't quite understand the point of the post. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

BF109 with a Yak canopy somehow modded, late model K4 engine (DB605A..D.. what? or was it a 603?), light wooden tail unit (deltawood like in Yaks), and only the hub cannon (overclocked 20mm with extra ammo). The machineguns just hinder vision and weigh you down... And rudder trim coudl be added.. Then some nice paint and..

This way you would have a 109 that can take 30mm cannon hits and you can see out of the plane and the gun is more effective and it climbs fast and turn better and you finally have trim.. woo! \o/

Thank you for your wellcome and replies. While flying the F-4 I noticed that I was able to recover from dives much more "on the spot" than with the other versions. I didn´t come to realize that the turn rate would be decreased due to the added HP. As for the climb, I thought it would be significantly enhanced with its addition. I imagined the ease was due to the significant difference in weight. Which is why I asked if it (in the later version) was due to armor, or a bigger engine and weapon. This was mostly a question of feasability and if in fact it was possible, whether someone could carry it out. Thank you for your time.

It's not the hp, it's the weight of the engine that makes the hp. Back then they were pretty limited in what they could do. They couldn't break out the laptop on the dyno and start playing with ignition and fuel curves like we can today. So the only way for more power (assuming fuel being a constant) was a bigger engine. There's no replacement for displacement. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

after flying this game for a long time I have settle on the G6 A/S, seems to be the best all around. I really like the G2 a little more but the gun punch of the G6 has it beat.

But I agree with DDT, the 109 in general lost some of its umf, no matter what model. I remember many o times DDT hit and run on me in his 109 and climbing away with me cursing under my breath http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

but no more

I LOVE the 109F4. While it isn't as healthy in the gun dept and engine dept as the later birds, it is very agile. It carries a LOT of MG ammo and if you get in close and amke your shots count, it will shred whatever you are shooting at.

You have to fly that plane up close and personal to be effective.

After 109F4, the G2 and the G6 are my next choices.

Ah, FB 1.0....those were the days, eh Johann? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

After that everything lost it's ability to zoom. :/ We've gotten some of that back in certain planes, but some still carry drag chutes with them.

Currently I actually like the G6. It's unfortunate that it behaves a bit too heavily compared to the G2. The real difference wasn't all that drastic, but, it's nice now compared to how it used to be.

But if I'm up against some mega climbers, I'll grab a G-10 or K-4.

I do like the feel of the Fs and G2, but, the punch is just so lacking...... There is something more powerful and satisfying about the G6.

Though the Emil has always been my favorite 109, but that's an aesthetic thing.

That does bring up an interesting point though.

I'd like to see what each generation of 109 would be capable of with modern engine technology.

Get the boys from AMG to rebuild those 60x blocks with no expense spared. The Emil would probably trounce the original Ks like it was nothing and the Ks would be positively frightening. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

Then may I please get a Ta-152C with an AMG DB-603?
Please. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Can't you just see it? Titanium, balanced cranks, sodium filled valves, 40,000V optically fired, computer controlled ignition systems, DOHC high flow cer-met heads, cer-met block, 120#/hr fuel injectors, maybe even a small turbo for down low, and a huge honkin turbo for up high. And with modern tech, they don't need to be the beasts that were in the Jug because they can spin to 100,000rpm (rather than 18,500 lol) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Or how about....a 190A6 M3? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

G6AS is by far my favorite of the lot.

A while ago I think Kurfurst/Isegrim mentioned that IL2FBAEPPFs G6AS is actually closer to being a G-14 ASM or some other designation in terms of equipment and performance. Anyone know if there's anything to that?
