Can you folks make any recommendations for a WWII strategic sim based on the Pacific War?

I'm less interested in a "arcade" style game than one modeled around a conventional wargame (if that makes sense).

It is not PTO, but I can say it is a EXCELLENT strategy war game.

War in the Pacific (http://www.matrixgames.com/games/game.asp?gid=351) is supposed to be excellent. It's a steep price, but the game is had a huge amount of detail for a strategic game. 40 mile hexes, combat losses and such down to individual vehicles and aircraft.

If you don't mind an old DOS game, there's Pacific War - the Matrix Edition (http://www.matrixgames.com/games/game.asp?gid=235). It has the benefit of being free!

I used to play War in Russia... those old games can be very addicting.

Anyone have any experience with it?

For grand strategy you have Hearts of Iron 2. Probably not what you are looking for though.

That definitely looks interesting. I would like to see a review first. Would want mega-detail in ordnance loadouts for the aircraft (GP, SAP, AP bombs), and much more.

Too simple and abstract to float my boat.

I had a copy of CAW II years ago including the construction kit and it was OK. (I have since lost the floppy disks, though) Like leitmotiv says, it is very simple and the combat is pretty abstract. If you want a simple game that is easily played in an hour or so, it might just be the ticket.
