Attention all flight personnel!
Axis and Allies Paintworks and Friends are very pleased to announce our first official collaborative project, due mid-December. Combining skins by the highly talented team of skinners at Axis and Allies Paintworks with missions by FlatSpinMan, we aim to bring you immersive, and most importantly entertaining top quality campaigns.

SCENARIO
Tunisia, North Africa 1942/1943
In the east, the Desert Rats have broken out from El Alamein and chased the retreating Afrika Korps across the sands of Lybia. In the west, American and British forces land in Morocco and Algeria, driving hard towards Tunisia.

Sensing the danger, the Axis forces move swiftly to occupy and fortify Tunisia – the closest link to critical supply bases in Sicily.

The opposing forces collide in a series of vicious battles in the north and south of Tunisia. The armies exhaust themselves, the weather turns foul and both sides consolidate and build up their forces.

In February of 1943, the greatly strengthened armies hurl their newly strengthened forces into battle – the outcome will decide control of the Mediterranean, the oil reserves of the Middle East, and importantly, will lay the way for the opening of a vital second front fro the Allies via the potential invasion of the German Reich’s soft underbelly – Italy!

Enter the fray, first as a pilot of the Jagdgeschwader 53, and then as a pilot in the Desert Air Force!

=================================================

Currently we are well on our way to having the Luftwaffe side of the campaign complete flying a BF109G4-Trop. We also intend to offer an Allied campaign but that is in the earlier stages of development and is likely to be released later.

It is envisaged that converted versions of the missions will be available too, to allow players to fly the same missions from an FW190 and both a Spitfire and the P40E.

REQUIREMENTS
The campaigns will be for modded installations only. I know some of our IL2 friends prefer the original version but there’s just too much good stuff for us to pass up, sorry.

Specifically it has been built for UltraPack2.01 with one essential addition – MrOblongo’s map of Tunisia, (available from the SAS website).
It should also run on HSFX.

Nearer to release date a comprehensive skin pack will be made available.

For more information, comments, or questions, come and visit us over at Axis and Allies Paintworks.

Cheers
FlatSpinMan

Now for some teasers! Note: Skins are not final.

WHAT a comeback Spinman!

Why do I suspect that it's gonna be way too much fun for allied fighter pilots with all those transports floating around? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

I love the image where the B-25 is attacking transports with the Bf 109 about to pounce.

FB -clearly you can wait - I just keep forgetting to send you that bloody game. Really sorry, it's absolutely hopeless!
Metatron - yep, been busy. Don't log in here much these days - too much irritation in the OT forum but mainly just not much time anymore.
Due to time I think what we'll do (me and Axis and Allies - this is a joint campaign, I'm just putting missions together for them) is do a rolling release. Start with the main LW campaign for the 109, then alter it and throw out the 190 "add-on", then a bit later the Allied side, hopefully also in a couple of different variants. That's the general plan at least. Who knows what we'll end up with though?

Carts- nice to have you aboard again!

By the way, the B-25s attacking Ju-52's is actually historical. The 109 flight is added just to make things fun for the player. In real life a whole swag of Ju52 were claimed by the B25's.

If you really hate transport aircraft, then the Allied campaign will be perfect for you. The Germans lost literally hundreds of transports in this battle, particularly in the Operation flax portion in April '43.

Man this looks epic http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

I just finished reading a book on the MED:
The Path to Victory by Douglas Porch.

It'll be great to go and re-enact some of those battles http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thanks for the great previews http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Looking forward to it FSM. Winter maps and Desert maps are my favourites. I've seen some of Kristorf's WIP skins and they look great. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
There must be a lot of work involved in making missions and campaigns.
At the moment I am working on a few quick missions for an upcoming desert map and per qm costed me hours already. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

Thanks gents. Triad - I may have a look for that book. I have buggaer all on the Spitfires actual missions in this conflict. Lots of profiles, technical info, but not much of what they DID. Never fear though, I have a good imagination.

Uufflakke - I like your house pack mods - look really good, especially if someone like redko is wielding them.

As for time, it takes absolutely ages, especially in a campaign like this where you have so much ground or shipping activity. Plus I'm trying to make 2-3 versions of each mission so that there is some randomness when you play through. The changes are minor mainly -moving waypoints forward or back, adjusting altitude, weather conditions, enemy numbers or aircraft types. So although there is a historical base to many missions, the actual playing experience may be a bit different. Should be fun though - there's so much going on in each one.

Hi FSM

If you are looking for some mission information about spitfire opertions in Tunisia you could try Spitfire Patrol written by Colin Grey. Grey was the top scoring Kiwi ace of WW2 (27). He flew with 81 Squadron in Tunisia. The book is quite a good read and has some good details about missions he flew in Tunisia.

Cheers

Thanks for the interesting and helpful comments/links, guys. I'd LOVE to read that Colin Grey book sometime (I'm from NZ, too) but won't be able to just yet.

The 145 Squadron link was actually pretty helpful too in letting me get some idea of what the Spitfires were doing.

Just writing to let you know that unfortunately this campaign will now be out sometime in January or so. I had hoped to finish the German side by today but have been too busy, and, in a few hours I'm away for a holiday in Saipan.
Sorry 'bout that.

Have a good Chrtistmas fellas.

MrOblongo kindly sent me the new, more accurate textures for the map and I think you'll agree they really change the look of the missions. They look very realistic and must have taken some work to do. They also show exactly why the LW used such innovative paint schemes.
As the first shot shows, it has certainly made spotting things harder - something I find difficult at the best of times. Spot the two planes in this shot.

Back in action finally.
Some shots from the Medinine area - actually not but let's pretend.

Campaign is coming...sometime. I hope soon but, as surreal as it sounds, Storm of War (okay, Cliffs of Dover) will probably be out first. AND Duke Nuk'em. I knew we had slipped behind a little, but this is embarrassing!
