Most fun thing I've experienced so far in PF, aside from multiplayer hehe. Landing on one of the smaller carriers with STORM on (created the mission in FMB). Those who feel confident with their trapping method already, should raise their skills by a few notches by trying this. Loads of fun, and yes, I now can do it with confidence http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

A little tip--no matter where you point the carrier in FMB, the wind will always come from about 40 degrees off the port bow!!! Thus you need lots and I mean LOTS) of rudder during approach! Heck just taking off from it requires a good amount of rudder too. And after landing, chock in to prevent yourself from rolling off the deck which is pitching like crazy!!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah I've tried it...Repeatedly!!

Well I had to do it repeatedly....Cos I repeatedly created very interesting Pilot Pizza's!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Eventually managed it...But I think that was more good luck than good judgement.

Which plane are landing in the storm?? There is a hellacious amount difference between the carrier planes, as to the degree of landing difficulty in the first place. I could land goddamm Hellcat if the carrier was hovering upside down in the air!!! But most japanese planes are hard to land due to the hook not hanging down very far. You have to do a true three-point landing to land a Japanese plane. Corsairs are the toughest Allied plane to land that I know of. I have never tried a Seafire/Spitfire because I truly hate British birds. No offense intended for our British cousins. They are about as useless as tits on Godzilla as far as I'm concerned. I will try them sometime soon just for kicks and giggles though.

Well, Britain has a different approach to building things to America. IIRC test pilots said that British aircraft are more harmonised while American aircraft are designed to have maximum power, maximum strength, max firepower, max everything.

Hi,

Seafire is about the easiest plane to land, I'd say. Nice and stable with no bad low speed stall characteristic (not that any planes do anymore!) at low speed and an arrestor hook so long that sometimes gets snagged on undersea cables.

Cheers,
Norris

The wind is coming sideways and it€s nearly impossible to take off. Either you blow sideways over the side or use rudder and end up upside down. The carriers always (as far as I know) went into the wind when launching and retrieving aircraft. Can you make a scenario like that and still have the storm on? Maybe it can be used to simulate the Doolittle raid, they had to take of in realy bad weather.

Will try to make the carrier turn 40 degrees to port after spawning, let's see if the wind still comes from the side or if it now comes from dead ahead.

Either I improved as a pilot during the night or you have altered the mission. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Now I can take off (just) and land. Thanks!

No I didn't! LOL in fact the following link contains a mission/properties file that has the carrier "turn into the wind" before you takeoff, makes things a LOT easier http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Now you guys can simulate DOOLITTLE'S B-25 stormy sea takeoffs! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif The zipfile also contains an NTRK, but after what I discovered about tracks and differnt CPU speeds, I won't trust it, but yes you can try and view but I cannot guarantee you would see what I see on my PC when I play it back http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

See thats just it...some people can fly Spitfires and some can't. Personally I love the Spits so I'll be staying with them http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Seafire landing in a storm was a real interesting thing. Since my landing abilities on flatops are poor right now, the storm just threw me into the side of the ship...not so good http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
