Are catapult launches from carriers possible in il2-1946? Or it's just the chocks away-brakes-revving up the enine-stick back-brakes released-go-method wich is available?

Catapult launches are not, to my knowledge, available.

Don't believe they had catapult systems in use during the 1940's, or at least not widespread if they did. Could be wrong though.

But to answer your question, no catapult launches in Il2.

A few Royal Navy carriers had 'accelerators' during WWII.

I'm looking forwards to IL2 1950 (they will get there eventually) coming out. I'm sure it will feature carriers, Panthers, etc.

Sorry wrong, wrongedy wrong. To paraphrase Blackadder, you could win a wronging competition with an entry like that. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The carrier that did not have a catapult was a rarity. (Off the top of my head I cannot think of more than a few).

Also when you think about it even Cruisers had catapults ... and wouldn't it have been cool had Oleg given us that!

I believe all of the escort carriers in the game have the catapults drawn on the ship, but none of them function in the game. I haven't checked the fleet carriers, but my guess is they are shown on them too.

TBDs or TBMs operated off escort carriers and you ain't getting that beast in the air without a catapult off a tiny ship like that.

My Rufe campaigns simulate catapult launches off of Japanese Heavy Cruisers. The Hurricats campaign simulates catapult launches off of cargo ships.

By 1940 the catapult was a fairly standard part of RN and USN carriers. The catapults were not steam driven like modern catapults, but were hydraulically operated. Il2 does not support catapults, it was not in the original game engine and evidently the game engine was not or could not be modified to implement catapults. It's a real shame since escort carriers were used in combat in the Pacific and without an operating catapult you really cannot launch fully loaded aircraft.

It looks like it's just Fs9 and WOV for cat launches. I'm looking into putting a catapult onto a cruiser in FS9. Only problem is the cruiser (scenery) will be stationary like all the add-on carriers.

FSX + Acceleration addon has moving carriers with working catapults and arrestor cables now too.

The US Navy at least did cat launches from carriers.

Zeno's Warbird video site sometimes has a 1944 Navy video viewable. It's also on this DVD that he has for sale:
