I never did a online track yet but I heard it lags you out like printscreen when you start one using the button.

So what's the difference between this and the printscreen cheat?

And wouldn't having to record all that data while flying make your system lag the server?

Time for a host option.

It's ok, Gregster.

There is a microscopic chance Oleg will make the trim more responsive in the patchT and you can get back to your normal b1tchin'. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Umm, btw how do you propose Oleg turn of the TIR anyway? He'll have to disable the mouse too.

Actually he might have a point. I've just started trying online .trk recording because regular saving was crashing my system. Hour long missions and TrackIR don't mix when it comes to saving tracks - hopefully this new patch to save tracks faster will help out (will try it out tonight and let you know)

As far as it lagging - I've noticed that the online track recording DOES slow things down - especially noticeable now that I have TrackIR - the head movement is choppier - what you would expect from TrackIR - not the usual smoothness you get while not recording.

NOTE: TrackIR is JUST as smooth on or offline - the only time it's choppier is when you are trying to record - or at least that's what I've found so far.

I was just joking back with RBJ who likes to take the pi$$ with TIR.

But, yeah, I'm too afraid to save tracks of any mission over 15min long with TIR as I could lose the use of my computer for a couple hours. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

And there's nothing lamer than a guy who would resort to these lag cheats not to get shot down. These kind of things must get fixed since it's obvious people can't seem to resist using them.

I hear 'ya about RBJ - although the more I think about it - the lag would only be apparent on your machine. And if it did slow things down - your ping would go up and "Cheating" would've been detected!!

its kind of weird thinking that you might be "on the record" at any time during the game. online track saving that didnt save text would be nice. i like your idea about the server setting for skin download. that way i could leave my skin on no matter what, and it would just be a matter of if other people saw it or not. server admins wouldnt have to police to see that ppl used other than default skins.

Is its use so prevalent that it needs to be "fixed"? With all the different "cheats" and "advantages" that one person or the other wants to disable, we'll soon be at a point where all you'll be able to do online is hit autopilot and let the game take over just to make it fair.

Also I still don't quite understand the deference given to the opinion of certain individuals. I mean, how seriously can you take someone whose roommate has an orange head?

I find it typical that this thread has become related to trackIR when the initial post was about the track recorder.

No wonder it's so hard to have intelligent discussions in here.

Yes, it is unfortunate that the majority must suffer for the misguided few but welcome to the reality of online gaming. As it is, if a certain "cheat" or "exploit" is left unresolved it tends to become more & more prevalent as is seen in just about every online game released to date.

Despite your well intentioned extrapolation of the situation to everyone just using autopilot, I don't think that becomes the case. If the difference between living and dying in a situation is simply the matter of a few key presses then even those not players not usually given to cheating may end up using it when they really need it. People aren't black or white, we're all somewhere in the greyscale. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

The printscreen thing is unfortunate and not really a major problem that I've seen (at least there's been a few times where guys just happen to lag crazily just when I get on their six) but left unchecked it eventually becomes an issue to be looked at seriously, if other games are any indication.

whats the difference with the game pauses and harsh lag by the time it takes someone to hit esc start record and type in a name is more then enough time to kill them. Wait till after the patch rbj

As for RBJ, I take him as seriously as the subject he brings up/responds to requires. Most of the time he just does his best to get everyone mad at him for his own amusement but he's rarely abusive. Works pretty well for my amusement too. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I just tried it over my lan and pressing track record doesnt cause a warp at all track record. I tried about 10 times and nothing. On Hl maybe it does from someone over seas but who knows. Im just concerned about smooth online play most and hope the patch really fixes it.

there must be literally thousands of way to induce lagg

the thing about print screen was it was far too easy it was built in to the game most other tricks require a bit of mucking about

I saw this one mentioned on another BBS. I did not include it in my list, over in Oleg's its not ready room, because I was never able to reproduce the effect in tests.

I've seen it used when on somebody's six or at least I think I have.

It's invariably a Yak-3 with an unpronouncably named pilot.

I start track recording when I enter a room and leave it running until I leave. It makes for some long tracks but I don't see any difference in fps or my TrackIR.
Starting track recording does cause a small hangup, about 1 second, but it's out of the way before I takeoff. If I want to print a screenie I can do it from the recorded track.
Anyone using PrtScr or track recording to avoid getting hit is just lame.
