makes no difference I think right now it is almost impossible to fly a bomber online because of idiots that will crash into you instead of shooting you, they really really need to fix the collision bug in FB and both planes should crash

Hm, pilots going kamikaze with their planes to down the enemy...

... unfortunately, nothing new. Many pilots out there think ramming is a tactic.
While the japanese used it, they targetted SHIPS, NOT PLANES.

In fact, ramming a single enemy just to get him down no matter what is just STUPID. Even the japs knew that. Accidents happen, but ramming on purpose is lame.

I for myself, playing scripted battles mostly right now, am succesful if I manage to kill at least one enemy before/while I get downed.
But I dont try to ram them, as any good pilot with some reasonable thinking, I try to survive and complete my flight.
By the way, I mostly fly Pe-8. If you cant hit a target that big with your guns, you probably should either practice more or play something else. Just dont ram, ok?

As I said, accidents happen, and if the ramming pilot apologizes, its ok.

Only ramming on purpose is BS.

umm ramming bombers was a common tactic in ww2 with special luftwaffe sturmbock or rammbock commandos. also the japs did kamikaze against bombers.

in il2 its pretty lame though, but sometimes due to lag only the rammer goes down. thats pretty funny then, because they start swearing like heck, if they're the lame kind and it wasnt an accident.

Collisions suck.

XyZspineZyX

One would hope for some tweaking of the collision model to allow planes to touch others without automatically exploding. I've read about Soviet aviators deliberately clipping the tail assemblages of German bombers, and if and when the V-1 occurs in this sim, I would like to emulate the common RAF practice of flipping them over with your wingtip.

I have accidentally collided many times without exploding in IL2. Lost tail surfaces being the most common survivable collision. My friend in an online coop lost the back half of his Yak behind the cockpit (if I remember right, might have been a differnet plane) and flew for quite a ways before he lost stability pitched over and crashed. With IL2's physics based engines there is almost always new and interesting variations on what can happen in the game.

Intentional ramming or colliding due to being greedy or not breaking off an engagement in time is very bad though. Try to fly like your life was on the line, and in the long run, you and everyone else will have much more fun.

I recently had a collision online. My I-153 lost a a rear stabilizer. His 190 lost a wing. Then exploded...

you dont touch the V1 when destabilizing it.
you put your wing under the v1 one, so that the fast airflow on your wingupsides causes a kind of stall to the wing of the v1, that way making it flip over. this feature will be implemented.

and youre right, soviets used their sturdy planes to damage the enemy bombers. this tactic was called tatra or something like this (it was with a T as first letter). please correct me if im wrong.

Sometimes it only seems like a collision occurred. I had someone get mad at me for a collision online a few months ago. However, someone else watching the fight through externals explained that I had actually shot off the enemy plane's wing with my cannons and had been hit by his debris afterwards. Another point is that someone close enough to ram you accidentally was almost certainly close enough to shoot you down anyway--it's actually a lot easier to shoot down a plane than tag it.

I have intentionally rammed an AI bomber on at least one occasion, when my plane was beyond all hope of landing. I bailed out immediately after shearing off its wing. This was a legitimate tactic in practically every air force when one's plane was a total loss. The Soviets would even ram perfectly servicable fighters into German bombers when their ammo was gone--this was called a Taran, or bullcharge. And as stated previously, the Luftwaffe used specially armored FW-190s to ram U.S. bombers, quite effectively. After expending their ammo, the Rammjaegers would attempt to shear off the stabilizers of bombers with their propellors. If done correctly, they could even land their plane, if not they would have to bail out. Expending a fighter (especially if the fighter pilot survives) for a heavy 4 engine bomber is a favorable trade.

that was exactly an argument Galland brought up against the Rammjaeger. but i guess you know this /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

and thanks for correcting my tatra to taran.
hope now ill finally save it to my mind /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

That flying zippo will make a lousy rammer.

XyZspineZyX
10-28-2003, 10:27 PM
I believe that most people don't like to ram, because, if it is a long way on your dogfight, you have do run that distance all over again! I try not to hit someone, but if I must, then I will. Say I lose one of my wings, I can still basically steer out of the way, and I try not to hit if necessary, then there are the times i misjudge, it happens, just refly. Too bad that real pilots couldnt hit refly as well.

As much as i agree, it won't happen. Oleg has already expressed his "expert opinion" on how this would be an impossible task. My advice: BnZ, that way if you collide, there's only one person to blame /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Hmm, will a well-performed kamikaze-attack against parked aircrafts count as a kill or as vulching?

Just wondering/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
