Hello Oleg,

I don't know if this is a subject that has been discussed before or not, but I would like a reply to this question.

I've been playing IL-2 since Christmas 2002 and Forgotten Battles since it's release date (both of which are at the very top of the Flight Sim table in my opinion) so I have enough experience with both games.

Recently since my piloting skills have improved I've noticed some aircraft performance fluctuations.
If I host a multiplayer game (and on some privately hosted multiplayer games) my aircraft tends to perform how I would expect it to, for example, top speed, turning circle and rate of climb.
Now on some privately hosted servers I have noticed a drop off in top speed, turning circle and rate of climb.
I understand about using height to your advantage and all that, but my recent experiences has lead me to ask this question.
I tried my luck at air racing and to my surprise was a clear winner in every race.
These races were all the same aircraft such as Yak 3, Mig 3U, P39Q and so on.
Engine management and prop pitch were on auto, so it wasn't down to that.

Can separate servers cause different individuals to experience degraded or alternative flight performances?

I've out turned Hurricanes in a Yak3 and been out run by P39s in a Yak3.
The top speed of a Yak3 far out-strips that of a P39. So what is happening and it's not down to height advantage, I'm a better pilot than that.

It can be due to lag. The same phenomeon has been reported with the original IL-2...sometimes planes would behave differently online from what they did offline.

But according to Oleg there is only one FM used...

Lag seems the most reasonable explanation, perhabs the programm misses a few calculation circles waiting for slow packets or somefink.

Some of it is down to pilot skill too. When I first started flying, I could never keep up with other pilots in the same aircraft. I now see the opposite happening, lesser skilled pilots not keeping up with me even when I run at very reduced throttle settings. My hardware specs didn't change and I was flying with the same hosts during this change, so my improving skill is the only factor I can attribute it to.

Yah, it's different piloting with lag than without and hosts with good machines don't get that. An online pilot has to be looser with the stick in general and needs to be able to sense and adjust to the connect, which may vary over time on the same server. An MP game with little lag is something to cherish and not something to expect always.
You can get practice to some degree by running a low end machine in SP or just overloading your own.

That don't ring true when air racing and I'm faster than the host. Am I really that good that I was faster in every race? I don't think so. Next you'll be telling me it's my PC.

Athlon 2400+
512mb Ram 2700
GF4 4800
80gig with 8mb cache
Soundblaster live

Cable 512k internet

I know lag does give some strange results on some online games where there are more than say 8 players, but to be out run by a P39, when my max level speed in a yak3 should be much better. In some games it's been as low as 400kmh???
I tested it with the 262 as well and found that it reached a max speed of 570kmh, where as in another game racing I got upto 780kmh level flight???
Thats too far out to be pilot skill my m8y's.

Anyone else notice the 37mm ap cannon of the P-39 is weaker online? It takes one hit offline vs planes like yakkers and hurris but online it sometimes just makes them smoke when you hit their engines (AP should rip right through no?) But I think it's fixed in beta8 anyways.

Though I'm quite sure there is only 1 flight model (both offline and on), the difference your noticing could be caused by temperature changes, from summer to winter or even from map to map (imho). As to why you won all the air races, somebodies got to win, why not you?
