I currently play Aces High, but il-2 seems to offer a pretty comparable game and some different aircraft I am interested in, how many players are usually logged on to fly with or against. Is this game comparable to AH in flight model. Do I need to buy the game before I can play or is something I can get off the internet like AH.

The lowest I've seen is 200. You won't have trouble finding a match.

And you need to buy the game, it's pretty cheap for a video game.
Get IL2: 1946. It's all the games packed into one.

AFAIK il2 is well advanced of Aces High in terms of FM, there's no online fee despite being dozens of servers with hundreds of flyers, plus co-op style missions, all done through a brilliant multiplayer lobby courtesy of Jiri, and it comes complete in the form of il2:1946 for 15. Plus free updates. This sim is legendary and well worth the stupid money its going for.

Hey I really apreciate the info, so I guess I will be seeing you guys online sometime or other.

Welcome Sir. I used to play aces high since 2001 until about a year ago. The two games are very different. Aces high has a lot of players in the same arena.
Here While there are all the time over 300 players in the "Lobby" playing the game, you will find 100 in one server once in a blue moon. Normally there are anywhere from two players to around sixty five in one server.

There are dozens of servers running with all kind of settings you want. You can play byplanes, jets, you can play easy settings, hard settings and anything in between.
If you want Massive multiplayer with hundreds of players in one big mindless furball you won't find it here.
But this game has so much to offer. The game is MASSIVE compared with aces high, All planes are modeled in much higher detail, There are four five times more planes here then AH. The flight model is a way more complex. You'll have to trim your plane, you'll have to switch supercharger gears, you'll have to watch your engine all the time or you'll burn it quick. There's no such an thing here as automatic trim, auto take off, stall limiter and so many types of autopilot like in AH. You'll have to fly the plane, that's the fun of it. Online only bombers have autopilot. The flight model is beautiful, there are so many things you can control and do to keep your performance high. Is hard to find two people that will get the exact same maximum speed with the same aircraft. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Gunnery is harder then in AH, in the beginning you'll have problems hitting the plane you shoot at.
The game while old now it still looks stunning. way better then AH.
Offline the game is Huge, you could fly for years and you won't run out of missions. You can make them too.

I'd say this is the best WW2 simulator ever.
Aces high is no match. The only advantage AH has is the massive multiplayer part. (Not that massive after Pyro split the Arenas http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif)

I loved that game but when you see how little they improved it over the years and how plain lazy they are I decided to pack and go. The game looked horrible already and if you have a good PC and you can compare it with other games you get tired of it quick.

Your best bet is to get the Il-2 Sturmovik 1946 and have everything was done in this game in the last five years.

You won't regret it. You spent that money in two months paying Aces High.

And since Il-2 has now monthly fee, you can spend money on other stuff, like TrackIr, rudder pedals, a better graphics card, a new HOTAS setup, another, even better graphics card, and that new throttle quadrant from Saitek looks wicked...

but I digress.

If you want the most realistic WWII flight sim on the market, bar none, Il-2 is for you.
