Well, I finally decided to try and get back online, got Hyperlobby squared away (I think). Whats a good server to start on? I tend to play almost full real, but I am willing to try full on as well (if folks can tolerate a noob http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )

Any pointers?

They are full real and are gentle on beginner pilots. Of course, that guarantee doesn't extend to the pilots you meet in those servers. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

There are some very friendly regulars on the UK-Dedicated1 and UK-Dedicated2 servers. At the moment the two servers are running 4.04m and 4.05m so whichever you have you can select.

TeamSpeak is nearly a must for all of the more difficult servers.

No problem on Teamspeak, I am just looking for someplace that I can get back into the online thing without a world of abuse. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I fully expect to get clubbed like a baby seal for a while on full real, and even on the less than full real, since I have been flying against AI for the last year or so.

I just wanted to find someplace that I can be a n00b for a bit without playing full time whipping boy to boot. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

War_Clouds has the big plus for almost constant set of planes (with slight variations) - good, if you plan to concentrate on one of the given planes.

Winds_of_War has a very different planeset and timescale from mission to mission. More diversification if you want/need it.

You may either plunge into the large servers with many people fighting, or you may start with "quieter" and smaller servers (like mine).

On smaller servers, the map doesn't rotate so frequently, you can learn to find your way around and use this in combat. Also, smaller servers may be empty when you join, so you can get your bearings on map objects before someone else joins (to shoot you down). Small servers can be more "personal" due to the limited number of people on-line. This aids situational awareness as well.

But whatever your size preference is, try various servers and find a regular one that you enjoy!

I particularly enjoy the Pacific Conflict server hosted by AG-51. Great maps, objectives, and plenty of ground targets. Class act all the way around including the guys at AG-51.

My hat is off to the guys over at AG-51, very decent bunch and very welcoming to a full switch noob. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thank for the recommendation Crash! And thanks for the fun flying against your SDB!

Try the WTEAUSserver, it's full of great historical maps and aircraft from 1939-1945, and the WTE boys that run it are a very freindly bunch and more than happy to see pilots from all over the world in there!

lol...roger that! I swear it seemed the entire blue team was out to get me! (There's an SBD! Get 'em!)

Times like that I don't mind getting shot down over and over and over... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Best times to visit seem to be Tuesdays and Thursdays when the squadron has their meetings but the weekends can be busy too. Had 18 on last Friday as I remember.

Wait till' ya see some of their other maps...loads of fun AND carrier ops.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm still picking shrapnel out of my teeth...
