one thing that breaks somewhat teh immersion for me is that tracers are grouped, so that we see them flying together almost as if they were tied to each other... only once they reach far away they appear separated.

good thing, it showes they're managed separately. I made a small track, a bunch of screenshots and played a bit with "copy" and "paste" functions... if they were "randomized", we may achieve something like this:

seems more "real" to me...


any thoughts?

i think the problem your describing is cause by the guns remaining perfectly synced with each other, firing their rounds simultaneously, if it were possible to have guns fire either slightly offset or have some sort of varience in fire rate of each gun (say 10% either way) each time you opend fire this would go some way to improve the gruoped tracer effect http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

u could just start the mix of the guns differently, rather than all the same atm, it does seem abit silly to me, id much prefer a stream of tracer vs the burst effect we get now
think .50cal fires tracer every 4th bullet.

so on p38,p47 u could set each gun to start with a different start round, eg

gun 1, tracer, we,we,we,
gun 2, we. tracer,we,we
gun 3, we,we,tracer,we
gun 4, we,we,we,tracer

Didn't they even fire with a little delay so that the ROF would be increased? Somethings like:

1--1--1--1--
-2--2--2--2-
--3--3--3--3

Now it's like:

1--1--1--1--
2--2--2--2--
3--3--3--3--

Wasn't that effect tried out in one of the FB patches? Could be my failing memory, but I was pretty sure Oleg put it in at one stage. It was subsequently removed, due to frame rate issues?

I don't remember it being present at one stage and removed.

the only thing being: if it's "randomized" the path should not appear as regular, so, the propositions like wileys should be slightly modified, say , maybe like this for a six 0.50 cal equipped plane:

----1----1----1
-2----2----2---
---3----3----3-

4----4----4----
--5----5----5--
-6----6----6---


it may appear then as a more steady flow of tracers, closer to what we may see on guncam footage (every fifth round is a tracer in the example above)

i would like too see randomized tracers too,i remember now that i notice this one too the first time i saw 50.cal. And it will help in the aim too, and perhaps in the visivility, btw.i ve seen in guncams , that 50 cal, have a bit of smoke trail,at least in the first meters, i would like see these one here.

what happened to the tracers 20mm cannons and 30mm? i dont see it like before???

US planes actually fired the guns so that they were not firing at once, but in sequence. I also maximizes the danger area sicne there are fewer gaps in the bullet stream. Right now you get a "boom" and 6 bullets are flying in formation, instead of the guns properly ripple-firing.

It was ripple firing uptil patch 1.22. When AEP came out, something changed with this and they were firing syncronized tracers.

No idea why. It wasn't for FPS issues because the P-47 had ripple fire .50cals from the beginning.

I would like to see this implemented.

Since even the same type of machine guns in an aircraft had very slightly differing rates of fire in real life. Plus it could also be that the belted ammunition was arranged slightly different for each gun, which would produce the same effect of ripple fired tracers.
