is available for download now at:-

for Il2/AEP/Pf 4.03m+

A 48 mission Scripted Campaign for an RAF pilot.
(Italian and German versions to follow as I get time)

This campaign is based on a a lot of historical research, no real pilot would have had the opportunity to experience all that is contained although I have constructed what I hope is a believable 'fiction'.

Most missions represent Radar guided interceptions above the Island of Malta, against a numericaly vastly superior enemy.

(of special note are several unusual Combat Air Patrol missions flying Gladiators and Sea Hurricanes from carriers to provide convoy escort to Malta convoy 'Pedestal')

Players fly Gladiators, Hurricanes, Spitfires and the Beaufighter against the Regia Aeronautica and Luftwaffe.

The campaign was constructed using the excellant il2 MATmanager and it is recommended that people install this utility in order to see accurate plane markings. (and it will improve the immersion of Il2fb generaly)

Thanks to all the skinners that created the skins contained within, I have tried my best to agnowledge their excellant work. (see read me).

please look at the enclosed READ ME

i) il2 MATmanager required to see correct markings.

1.4 Includes a lot of new skins, audio samples with the briefings and numerous minor improvements.

I have just discovered that some of the sound files with 1.4 are problematic.

If you wish to download this please wait until after 1pm(B.S.T) on Tue 21st when I will reupload a version with this corrected...

If you downloaded the campaign in the last 8 hours, redownload it or remove the soundfiles from your pf\samples\sounds directory.

Sorry about this

Hi Charlie
This looks good, but can you clarify the update? You say you'll do it Tues 21st, should this be Tues 28th March?

03-28-2006, 06:49 AM

It was late last night and I mis-typed the date...the corrected version is uploaded now.

Not a fantastic beginning.

This has been posted however for about 3 weeks, 800+ downloads and generally very well received.

The sound issue was because I have embedded sounds into the mission briefings, some
period radio soundbites, a proper air raid siren, a merlin engine, even Vera Lynne.
BUT in order to do this and be compatible the sound has to be in a compatible format so I have used 11000Khz 20bps Layer3 Mpeg Wavs now the same as pilot speech.

It would be possible to use this technique to actually do verbal briefings !

Anyhow please enjoy , would somebody post a few screenshots ?

Thanks a lot for your Campaign and the number of hours you must have spent to make it !!

Well done mate - without a doubt the best ground detail I have seen yet and I have just about all 3rd party campaigns downloaded (and mostly played).
Thanks for the time an effort you have applied to this little beauty.

I'm very interested in this.

I have read a lot of books with information regarding the battle of Malta.

I have ordered the DVD Complete version, will your work be compatible?

A Historical bump...

Most malta missions were Scrambles based on Radar picking up formations forming up over Sicily.

Fighters took off, climbed to 10-20,000 feet (the later it got, the higher planes climbed)...then dived through enemy formations targeting the bombers...and carried on down to ground level and landed. 20-30 mins airborne maximum...

Pilots had orders NOT to dogfight and early on a Flight Seargent was busted to Swordfish for disobeying orders and dogfighting in a hurricane.

(and people say the flying tigers invented Zoom and boom !)

The most sucesssful allied pilots were not English according to Johny Johnson.

George Screwball Beurling was the most famous ace (canadian).

Ray Hesselyn (New Zealand) got a high score when it was really tough and ? Goldsmith (Australian) Johnson also rated.

These pilots were individualists who fought alone often and none performed so well later.

Some actual game information- I have done 50 missions for an Italian (Regia Aeronautica) fighter campaign and it is very differant, kind of 'multi-role' with close escort, high cover , convoy attack and convoy cover missions, with some scrambles at times. Anyhow it should showcase all the new Italian flyable fighters pretty well and links in with the history from the Commonwealth variant.

Brillaint campaign. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

First time I€ve felt really immersed in a campaign and flew all the missions in real time, even the ones that last over a hour.

Flying back with only a little fuel left it was a joy to see Malta on the horizon.

The difficulty is very well balanced.

You want to get at the bombers but often can€t avoid becoming embroiled with the fighters and sometimes just have to get the hell out of there and dive back to base.

The progression through the aircraft is interesting as well.

The Hurri Mk1 seems such a high performance aircraft after struggling with the Gladiator.

The extra engine power & armament of the Hurri IIB is very noticeable and with the Spit you at last feel superior.

I can't reach CombatAce, looks like the site might be temporarily down... anyplace else I can reach it?

Beaufort, if you like flyig 'Canes you might try my "BOB Hurricane Season" campaign It's also on CombatAce as well as Airwarfare. I've gotten lots of positive feedback on it.

Funny you should say that as just 2 minutes before reading your post I finished the 4th mission of Hurricane Season. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Tough start, set on fire and damaged twice in the first three combat sorties. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif
