Has anyone else seen warships run aground? I saw 3 run aground yesterday when I ran the Scapa Flow single mission. Are the devs aware of this pathfinding error if it has been seen before?

I went into Gibralter harbor just to see what it looked like. Saw several Elco's and a Destroyer run into the lighthouse and explode.

Yes I've seen it. It's not the mission but the AI in general.

The odd thing is I found that when you use high time compression in the close proximity of destroyers, they seem to almost "teleport" to your position unless you are at least 10 km away from them. I've noticed ships running aground when I do this close to shorelines. It seems that they are taking the shortest distance to your position and if there happens to be a piece of land in the way then they'll hit it.

The other thing that you'll find happening in later war scenarios is that the AI will start to become agressive against allied ships in the event that there is a friendly fire incident. Just load up the convoy mission and get between the two destroyers. Nose your scope up and then dive. They might miss you and then they shoot each other while you take care of the merchants. I've also seen this take place in large convoy encounters in MP.

Definately a comical AI bug, I have seen Merchants shooting holes in each other, but I must admit I haven't seen the run aground scenario, it must be comical.

I have seen an armed trawler that was chasing me for ages just off a convoy simply sink, that was in lousy weather with high seas and I certainly didn't shoot it. It was multiple Kms from the convoy which I of course savaged http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Maybe it has something to do with the harbor walls and such that light houses/other buildings are located not being on the map.

Yeah i had that in the Scapa flow mission too

I put five fishes into the target battleship, then got hunted down by some DD's

One of them ran over me, i was at periscope depth (i couldn't really go any deeper) - my periscope was destroyed but other damage was only minor, and the DD sank <lol>

We could do with some AI / pathfinding tweaks

also in scapa flow, i had a C3 hydrophone contact.
It was too far and moving away, so I wasn't going to hunt it.
Howewer, its position didn't change with time, so I had enough time to go looking for it and yes, it had hit an island and was still steaming with full power trying to get trought it....

Mag torpedo under the keel, and it was history. Muahahahhaahhaaha!!

Did it sink through the island?
I remember, in MS Combat Flight Sim 2, these destroyers which used to sail across islands. Notably at Guadalcanal I think. Even followed the differences in altitude.

What really should happen is that a squadron of unescorted tug boats should immediately set sail for the stranded ship. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I dont think land has been taken into account. You can also "hear" through land. When i was using the hydros in one attack on the lochs in scotland i was getting a warship sound to the north east. There was land there though, when i checked via the free camera over the land there was infact a destroyer at the other side.

Its a minor thing and would be very hard for programmers to sort out i guess. Especially since these harbour type attacks by uboats hardly ever happened. Its more of a deep sea/coastal sim.

Maybe it could be tweaked and tuned a bit though.

I had tought about torpedoing the grounded ships, but, as it was, when I left Scapa Flow, I was out of torpedos. I think I had to put 6 torps into the BB there. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I wasn't about to surface to try and shoot it out with them. As it was, going in at night, the one that was run aground then was firing star shells trying to find me.

QUOTEhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifid it sink through the island?

No, it was broken and I got the message "Enemy ship destroyed", but it stayed on the land/seabottom (it had about one meter under the keel...).
