Living here in Dallas, it's all over the radio and TV news. One particular sports-talk radio station I listen to daily were friends with the guys. They were big Dallas Stars hockey fans - they wrote the "unofficial" theme song that got played before each Stars home game. Great stuff. Sad, sad day for the world of metal. Guitar ranked Dimebag 5th or 6th most influential guitarist - right behind Jimmy Page. Quite a complement. He will be missed.

Then why are you wasting bandwidth?

RIP Dimebag, though I've turned a little soft in my college years I can remember the Junior High Days, rockin' out the rhythms of Biohazard, Pantera, and Scepultura. And scaring the hell out of my parents.

Thanks, your music is part of many good memories for you.

RIP Darrell Abbott

I took a band to the club, The Al Rosa Villa, to play there. We were told that we could play, but as an opening act for another group, and for free. Well, while we were there, I noticed how open everything was, and security was lax. Granted, that was a few years ago, and no security can stop a madman bent on some crazy dream-fulfillment with a gun http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Dime, you were one crazy sonofa*****, a great guitarist, and an inovator of modern playing.

You Will Be Missed.

Dime was one of the greatest metal guitarists ever.

As does your oversized sig. Can someone get him to fix that? 550x150 IIRC.

You know whats wierd...
This weekend, actually the night he was shot, I was trying to put up the poster he had signed for me 'MIKE, SMOKE IT UP'
..anyway, it kept falling down. I think it was a sign.

I met Dimebag many, many years ago at a music shop in Maryland.
He played an endorsement foir Randall Amps...me and my friends hung out with him for like 15 minutes, behind him while he signed posters. He was awesome.
my friend, Sean got to play his Axe! He just asked, and Dime was like, "Sure man"!
Sean almost passed out.
Pantera was KING when I was a kid.
Noone else, ever has had a crunchier sound, while still being groovy.

I dont give a %$#@ about celebrities dying usually...except for this.
...and when Jam Master Jay from RUN DMC was shot.

BSR_Dude... you wouldn't happen to have been one of those freckled/red headed hall monitor's that everyone made fun of back in junior high would you?

This angers the hell out of me. I wish these nuttos would just shoot themselves first before giving into their paranoid delusions but they see themselves as starring in their own twisted play.

Yep, Read it about two hours after it happened. Went to their website and it was abuzz with posts. Some of them were quite nasty. To think that our race has this much hate sickens me.

I never listened to too much Pantera although most of my friends did. I was too busy trying to become a musician myself if that makes any sense. But when I heard what happened I felt sick, angry and confused all at the same time.

Phil Anselmo of Pantera lives near my hometown and comes into the post office regularly where my wife works. I'm sure the next visit won't be as pleasant. A lot of my friends used to hang out with Pantera and I've never heard one bad thing about them other than Phil bit my wife on the knee one night long before I met her. Something my wife kids with him about when she sees him now. Although he didn't remember doing it he still apologizes to my wife every time he sees her at the post office. She gets a kick out of it.

It's sad that our world is ruined by the selfishness and will of the sick. I can only imagine what Darrel's family is going through right now.

I feel for Vinnie and Darrel's family. Godspeed Darrel. You're in a better place now.

realy weird was i was playing mt PRS when it can on the news. i dam near broke my E string. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

anyone hear any thing about a motive?

12-14-2004, 12:04 AM
The only thing I've heard so far is that the shooter might have been mad that Dimebag broke up Pantera.

12-14-2004, 12:29 AM
I am in no way supporting what the guy did to the great DimeBag. Just seeing what some of you refer to as "sick" Crazy or whatever else you say kinda offends me. I have suffered from my own demons so to speak. Alot of people suffer from mental illnesses and never seek help for their problems because of what someone might think or say about them. So instead of bashing people with a mental illness go out and do something to help others like myself. I was hellbent on killing myself until someone saw I had a problem and i got help. Dont get me wrong guys. Im a huge fan of Pantera and Darell. My favorite song is Suicidal Dream. go figure on that one. Anyway just dont think that all people with a mental illness or illnesses are all like Darells killer. We are not all like that.
