This is the Battle of Britain right? What variety of maps will be available and how big will they be?

Would be nice, if I choose to try it out, to be able to have a flyable B-17, take off from England and fly a bombing mission to Berlin.

Missions to Paris would be nice to.

But I guess since this is BoB, there will only be one map? No B-17s?

I guess you didn't read my last sentence?

This is were it gets interesting. Your right, summer to autumn 1940...one map, few planes. Is that it?

One huge map from north of London to south of Paris apparently.

No B-17's. Flyable Blenhiem tho...not really a B-17 or a good bomber but its a nice "**** plane" bomber for 1940 and useful in the desert scenarios.

I think a flyable B-24 makes more sense given that we're supposed to be going to the MTO and there were more B-24s.

BOB SOW will be one large map extending across the Channel to parts of France and Belgium. I believe the next map in the SOW series will be the Med Theater which will be interesting to see if it will be one map or a series of maps. Hopefully it will be one big map.
The next SOW theater is a toss up...Pacific/Eastern/Western Europe. Maybe by the time these theaters come out, long range bombing missions over detailed object intense maps will be possible.

My guess is that the Med will be two or even three maps.

From Egypt and most of the way down the desert to Tripoli or further (thats huge although somewhat barren). Then the second from somewhere where it left off into Algeria.

Third map would from Malta to Sicily and Italy. Depending on the time frames they may have to make a second Italy map.

Those are enormous maps. Simply huge.

I'm more happy about what BoB will have, rather than looking ahead to all sorts of theatres.

The plane set is very comprehensive and well balanced. Fighters and bombers for all 3 nations. The map looks like it'll be of beautiful quality. With multiplayer modes like Capture the Airfield, it'll be a blast to play online. Then there's the weather model and improved DM, playable flak. It will be simming heaven.

Not too concerned if it ever leaves BoB. I kind of worry that it'll turn into an unfixable pile-o-content like IL-2 series.

Not exactly a limited plane set:

Hurricane I/II
Spitfire I/II
Bf-109E3/E4/E4N/E4B/E7
Me-110C
Blenheim IF
Beaufighter I
Defiant
Fw-200
Ju-88A1/A5
Ju-87B
Do-17Z
Do-215
He-111H3/H4
He-115
He-59
Br.20
Cr.42
G.50

I would say a rather comprehensive plane set...

get the immersion factor going and this thing will go off

Nope ... IIRC the eastern border of the planned map is somewhere in Belgium/Netherlands and the western border is ... well ... west of England http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The southern border should be OK, the northern would be somewhere "north of London", but nothing exact is known.

Word on the street... ie what Oleg has mentioned is about what Thor said, although then again Oleg hasn't said much. Furthermore I haven't heard anything about Paris being included, though it would be nice! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Saw some pics of the Walrus and AutoGyro. Are these included? I'd buy it just to fly those two planes.

Still, one map and a few planes? Thats pretty limited compared to the IL-2 series.

Here is an idea on patches. Publish patches as the war progresses! New planes and maps.

...........

for me, even im not very in love with the BoB, its a good decission of Maddox to concentrate on specific battle scenarios (and thier limited timeframes)in the SoW series, i hope they will keep that on track !

and not like the IL2 series is now, have something from all, but nothing complete........ http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif - even the eastern front not (with the IL2 series started only !)

so, personaly, also the Sow:MTO has not to have the whole stuff in it from 1940 to 1945........

and i hope for a some kind of Channel 1941-42 Adon (not free!), same map, flyable planes like:
1941/42

Hurricane Mk.IIb&c (Hurribombers !)
Spitfire Mk.IIa
Spitfire Mk.Vb (one woth boost level for 41, one for 42)
Spitfire Mk.IXc (Merlin 61 or 63)
Typhoon Mk.Ib
Mustang Mk.I
Mosquito F.Mk.II
Mosquito B.Mk.IV
Boston Mk.III

Bf109E-7/N, /Z
Bf109F-2,-4
Bf109G-1
Fw190A-1,-3
Ju88A-4
Do217E

for all the people that want "their" specific one and only plane - Maddox is planning to give the game a more open structure (not sure if already in the first release). so that 3. party developers can bring in thier work.
my guess for the first of these planes....... a P-51D http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I would like to see a game developed as war progressed.

I think they do have a "development plan" ... at least I hope they have one http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I agree with Frankyboy, that the first logical official addition would be planes from 1941 and 42, as this would not require a new map. Secondly a lot of these aircraft played a role in the Mediterrean, which is rumored to be the first major addition.

"Still, one map and a few planes? Thats pretty limited compared to the IL-2 series."

You can't compare the number of aircraft in a completed series with the number of aircraft in a series that has just begun. I'm sure when the SOW series is complete it will have more aircraft, with larger maps.

The SOW series will try to expand on the lines of the actual expansion of the war. This may be hard to implement as the theaters timelines overlapped and making a detailed map large enough to encompass the pre D day western bombing campaign. The series timeline will depend on computer cababilities and marketing demands etc.

Can you imagine the noise if most of the planes you just paid for were included in the next addon . http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif I think I'll just wait then. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I wonder how far "north of London". All the way to York would be nice. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Now...are you on about the total amount of content OR about how not all of the content fits together in the best way?

If its the second then I do agree. We've got some great stuff for maps that we don't have and some great maps but missing important things. That all said I love the sheer quantity of stuff and the relative quality that applies to all of it. I know what people say but given what we have...the quality is EXCELLENT. Not even half way there...its excellent. Play some other games and see what kind of steaming piles of **** you can buy these days with not even a small percentage of what this game offers in terms of content, variety and replayability.

But it would be nice that if Storm of War goes to a theater...that they really go whole hog and do what they want to do and not include stuff that is nice to have as well but not relevant. Give that Storm of War is being done the way I think it is...this is what they mean to do and that IL-2 just sort of went from a very focused sim to a huge thing. Now they know what they can do and I think things will be better.

It wouldn't matter if the FM's were historically perfect. There would still be 10 page forum topics telling the developer he had intentionally porked their favorite aircraft. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

If the new Desert Online map is even a tiny peak at the way the long rumored Med expansion will look, I'm hooked already.

I just hope that we will be able to do more than just the early days, not that I don't like the early planesets, I do. But having not only a comprehensive RAF but a relatively complete USAAF planeset (A-36 Apache is a must have) would open up so may avenues.

Here's hoping.
