I was attacking some B5Ns today and I took some damage which forced me to manually lower my gear.I couldnt find any way to verify if they were locked. Anyone know if there's a gear locked indicator somewhere in an F4U?
(This is a 45 second clip of me blowing the **** out of some B5Ns, why I put it here I dont know.Looks kinda cool I guess.)

Unless you've turned off the messages that the game sends you, "landing gear down" should appear when the gear is down and locked. Other than that....I'm not sure if the Corsair has gear lights. Some aircraft do...if this happened on the Mustang or Tempest just wait for the green lights to come on.

You have easy gunnery on there? They all blow up in narry a hit.

No, the only time I ever turn off in-flight messages is when I make my little movie clips, and there was no 'gear lowering' message or anything, but I did land ok.

And about the easy guns: After you said that, I went back and looked at my dificulty settings and I realized that I've never tried flying with-out it on realistic gunnery. I'm gonna have to go try that just to see what its like. I mainly just turn off clouds, no ext views, cockpit always on and I like the map, but mostly I fly realistic. Those B5Ns blowing up after taking my 6 .50 CALs were rare, but they ALWAYS blow up when an HVAR hits them.

Wow, Icefire
I just tried easy gunnery and is rediculous. I see now why you thought I was using it in that clip. Just about any plane I shot at blew-up.

Yeah just the way it looked. Easy gunnery seems to have a hit bubble or something...and stuff just blows up. Its sort of silly but I guess if your new it may help.

Indeed anything will blow up when hit by HVAR's http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

They were not often used like that although I hear it did happen a few times.

Easy gunnery has the same hit criteria as normal gunnery but:

- there is no ballistic drop, the bullets travel in a straight line out to 2 or 3km (then disappear I think).
- there doesn't seem to be a loss of energy with distance, though I may have imagined this when I tested
- bullets do four times as much damage on easy as they do on realistic... this explains the ease with which one can damage an opponent when realistic gunnery is turned off.

The gear down indicator on the F4U is near your left knee it has three sliding mechanical lugs side by side (one for each main and tail wheel) that move down when the gear is extended and up when it is retracted, when they reach the bottom the gear is locked. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

BTW, didn't some planes have a little protuding device that came up from the top of the wing that gave the pilot a visual verification that his gear are down and locked? Can't remember what plane I saw that had that, maybe in some museum, but it would be a good realism plus fro a sim. Just thought I'd put that in there.

The IL2 Sturmovik in this sim (merged version) has it.

Good Tully, I'll check it out. I should fly that thing anyway, don't think I ever have. I feel like bombing the cr-p out of something anyway.
Oh, ya... I read here recently that the Il2 can carry a torp also; http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Time to go fly it.
