I shot it out with 3 coastal merchants last night[June 1943]and sunk all 3 but took some damage that my crew repaired,but-now my hull integrity is down to 58% and I'm closing in on a fat juicy convoy. How is this going to affect my boat if I have to dive deep after my attack?

Hi
What is your sub?
How many destroyers there are and how many torpedos you have?
You should not engage merchants or destroyers that way you will have your hull integrity 100% I know that is fun http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif to do but like in real life its very danger thing to do,so now about your problen I think that you will be able to dive more or less 70m I think but there is are more people that can tell you better because I till now have to dive deep with the hull integrity so low but came home a lot of times with 10% or less but of corse on surface after no choices battles with some destroyers once I get to base with just 1% short after I anchor the sub it sunk like on the end of DAS BOOT

My sub is V11C and I have full load of torpedoes, didn't want to waste them on coastal merchants.I didn't think they could hit me at 3000M,I was wrong.Convoy has 4 DD's,but several T3 tankers,I'll attack tonight and hope for the best.I've got some decoys,I don't know how many they give you when you buy them?I know it's more than one.Ran an der Feind!

There is only one way to find out.

VCIIC has an operational depth of 150m, right?

150m x 58%= 87m

or

VIIC, according to the config file is max depth 300m.

300m x 58%= 174m

I think i'd go for the 87m s maximum somehow...

Yeah these guys are right, stay under 100 metres your sub is leaky lol.

Also now when you get back to port it will take an extra 50 days or so to repair, so you would have been better off using the torps. You ended up losing more time then you would have done going back to base! Your not a battleship http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

Good luck http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hi
Try to fire one torpedo to every T3 but do it at the same time(fire your torp)them dive like hell but dont go deeper that+-70 and hope that all torpedos hit there target if not sunk at least will stop the T3 after the convoy is out of range and if the DD´s dont sunk you,you can always finish the ships that remain on the surface.Good luck dont forget to tell us what happen http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

220m is crush depth for the VIIC.

I just took mine down to 174 off ireland to break the monotony and the crew started panicking lol. I also got a bit nervous so did not go any further http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Especially since finding out the crush depth is a bit of a silly thing for me to do!

I've brought my VIIC to 240+ then got nervous and blew tanks back to the surface. Dam the noise and the attitude of the crew was enough to freak me out, I couldn't imagine haveing to stay at that depth for any length of time.

Don't listen to them, with 58% you can still go as deep as you want, you just can't come back up! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yes, I stand (drown?)corrected...It's not the fall from a 50 storey building that kills, it's the sudden stop at the end!

I attacked the convoy last night, sunk 1 T3,crippled a C2 and a T3[came back and finished them off later].I crash dived after the attack and snuck away without being detected.Wow! Did that convoy panic when those fish hit!Several ships almost collided.I passed around a bottle of schnapps for my crew.

Wouldn't it have been more fun if instead of the anticlimactic You-Are-Dead screen suddenly popping up, the Star Wars Screeching Sound From Hell was played?

I have never heard it myself, but I can imagine a sitaution similar to this:

WE: We've been detected, sir!
CE: New depth 380 metres
220..
230..
240..
250..
<distant thumping of depth charges>
260..
270..
280..
CE: We're taking damage, sir!
290..

Would be best if your monitor exploded and 100 tonnes of water crashed through your bedroom roof. Would make the fear of being killed maybe a little too much though...

I think an outside shot of your U-boat succumbing to it's wounds would be cool, better than the sudden death screen.

Baldricks_Mate

I think the outside shot would be cool too. If it would be easier (?) i'd settle for someones internal visual interpretation of a sub imploding with a really big BANG from the speakers.

Loud enough to frighten the sh*t outa ya!

The whole death screen is a bit wussy at the moment.

You are all so Hollywood.

I'd like to see pipes and bolts and all sorts of junk flying around in the boat as the hull starts giving way. And members of the crew going mad. Others sitting down with their eyes closed, just waiting for the final blow.
Then, finally, the sub will flood in a matter of seconds and you get to see things floating about in the dark, ice cold water before everything goes black. All this combined with the horrific grinding and moaning sounds of metal.

THAT...would be awesome...I wonder if they would have to increase the ESRB rating for the game to mature players only...it would give me nightmares! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

I always thought, that anytime there was a hull breach from extreme pressures the crew would be incinerated? Im not real sure how it works. I read somewhere that is what would happen. Everyboy is incinerated in a flash.
Maybe that just happens at greater depths.

incinerated implies the use of flame...
...I think what really happens is this, water enters the u-boat, as soon as a bulkhead is full of water and the water pressure is equal to the water (depth) pressure outside...water is either forced down the throat of the sailor by sheer force, OR his lungs will explode since he is holding in air. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

When I read Blair's books...there always seem to be pieces of lung floating up when destroyers looked for proof of kill...

...Now, back to my lunch! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
