I have a friend who went last summer. If you get the chance to do a little exploring, she said that the Hiroshima Memorial museum was a good walk-through. Be warned though, it shows the bombs in an entirely different light. Not many people get to hear the stories and see the photos of what it actually did on the ground. A lot of us only hear about the explosion from the view of the B-29's.

Yes, Hiroshima is definitely worth a visit. Politics aside, the stories of the victims and suvivors are harrowing.

If you're in Tokyo, again, poliics aside, o to the Yasukuni Jinja (Shrine) Museum. You'll find a Zero, an Ohka, a Kaiten (kamikaze submarine) some 'interesting' takes on Japan's military history plus a few other planes. I haven't been for ages so can't remember exactly.

Where are you going to be?

If you get to see the Kaiten human-torpedo that FSM mentioned, be sure to take many photos for me. I've had a model on the bench for ages in need of extra references.

An overview of the museums are here:

(More museums in the drop down menus on the left)The Yamato one looks like a winner too!
