If you had to simulate the Spitfire XIV what aircraft in IL2 do you think approximates its performance the most closely?

Personally I think the Yak 3 VK 107 is a good match

Shpitfeur 25 boosten-wagen

Although too light.. why not, I say!

Sure the Spit 25lb is the obvious choice but it struggles to break the 400 mph mark. The XIV was good for 440/50 mph at altitude - like the Yak3 VK is in game.

I would have said the La7

High top speed, great turn, but the SPitfire would have a bit faster climb, higher break up speed and a slower dive acceleration.

These are just guesses.

Actually what I described does sound a bit like the in game Yak3.

You can't get there from here.

Sorry Roland. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

A Mustang MkIII or maybe a P-51D with 25% fuel.

The VK 107 model has great performance up high and a break up limit higher than the SPitfire or the P51.

On the subject have you guys seen NightShifters new Sea Fury hack based on the Tempest ? Its like a Sea Tempest and its awesome.

There is no equivalent. If you have tried the delightful Real Air Spitfire XIV in FS9, you know it can't be mimiced. No other plane in IL-2 has the lightness of controls, the maneuverability, the altitude performance, the firepower, and the engine power. Forget "equivalents."

V107 looks a bit like it too, so I guess its a good hack? And that Seafury skin is really nice, my favorite tempest skin from now on http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Very doubtful mate.

Spitfire XIV certainly didnt have a Laminar flow wing and still had the same airframe as a SPitfire VIII. To have it change into an energy fighter all of a sudden would be a very strange thing to happen!

appearances aside, id say Ki84A/B

fairly close all round perf, and guns that, with thier ammo load, is likely similar total firepoweer potential

only signifigant diff is slightly less power at alt

hmmmm wait....spit HF is most ideal http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I am wondering more and more why our Ki84 travels as fast as it does, every source I find gives a top speed of 388Mph, the SPitfire IX's top speed is 403mph, yet in the game the Ki84 is far faster than the Spitfire IX

Ki84 FM data based un US tests of a tuned example running on high octane fuel, yielding a "427" mph figure, commonly quoted in references for the hayate

as far as top end goes, ki84 is quite optimistic, service examples would be far closer to your 388 mph figure

nothign new here, supposedly Lavochkin FM is also based on optimistic, prototype/tuned for trials data, not at all representitive of a typical service example

You guys do seem to forget that 1.) Japanese test data only shows military power (=100%) and not WEP 2.) we do have late war 2000hp engines for all three Ki84s modelled so its no wonder they all hit the 680km/h mark... would be better to have the Ki84a and b modelled with their more common 1800hp engines which would cut them back to around 650km/h and maybe have a "late" b plus the c modelled with the super-duper 2000hp powerplants...

Yeah, even though some great Fury hacks were made with the Ki-84, I always wandered why no one did the same with the Tempest until now. It is after all much closer in general shape, albeit lacking a radial.

Mmmmm.....yummy Spitfire goodness.....

I'd settle for a +25lbs CW Spitfire though. Easy to do with current models in the game already. Just like they did for the current +25lbs.

Ooh, I get all tingly just thinking about a +25lbs CW monster of a Mk. VIII or IX.
