Hi guys, heres my problem I installed il2 1946 yesterday after uninstalling because i cant play online with the 4.09b patch and i really wanted to start flying again as i havent flown since before christmas, waiting for my new pc. Anyway i installed 1946 yesterday oatched it to 4.08 and it worked fine put my old confi.ini in the directory and thought id play it the next being today. Today comes around and now the game wont load i get the spinning disc symbol screen goes black then goes back to desktop with the il2 1946 loading in my taskbar but it doesnt do anything it just stops and doesnt respond. If i delete my confi.ini the game will load but then i have to set up my video options ingame as when i try to load the setup from desktop my video options are blank. If i disable sound the game loads up fine. i have 2 sound cards 1 onboard which i cant uninstall and 1 installed card which id prefer to keep as the sound is better in my opinion.

This *should* work:
1)uninstall
2)delete 46 directory (folder).
3)empty recycle bin
4)reinstall without patch, leave conf.ini stock
5)check - see if it runs ok now
6)patch
7)check again - if ok then change your conf.ini
9)if ok patch to 4.09beta but DO NOT copy mg_snd.dll and mg_snd_sse.dll (one or both is causing problems on my rig)

hope this helped

bigchump

The main culprits for your type of problem are the new .dll's that come with 4.09beta. Try patching to 4.08 then dl the dll's from this site if still no luck:
http://hosted.filefront.com/MaXMhZ
Those dll's are known to be ok for 4.08
Also make sure you don't have multiple copies of 46 on your rig.
mg_snd.dll and mg_snd_sse.dll can cause a failure for 46 to load. Both of these have to do with sound....

Remember, if it ran ok before - it will run ok again.

Don't give up...

I'm not sure if this will help, but it's worth a shot I think.

Do the first 3 things on Bigchump's list.

Download "CCleaner", it's free to use, and powerful.

Make sure windows has a current backup on file. Just in case.

Run "CCleaner", and first clean out your HD (it will clean out cookies, old temp files, clean out your docs list), then use the registry checker to find any oddball items. It should find anything associated with IL-2, if any. Be sure to allow the program to back up your registry first, just in case.

Defrag your HD, then restart your computer.

Install IL-2, and patch to 4.08m

Your old config, which I'm guessing was from 4.08m, should work now.

If that doesn't work, perhaps you might have to reinstall your video drivers?

Also, if you have an issue with your registry after "CCleaner" does it's work, find the backup the program made, right click and select "Merge". That will restore your registry prior to "CCleaner".

Good luck.

Another easy thing to check is your IL2 setup.
Try changing your sound stuff.
If your new rig comes with Vista64 you'll become an expert at this s***.

MelloYello
01-18-2008, 11:11 AM
still no joy with the reg edit ive also tried different sound setups but not all of them. ermm i built the comp myself so i stuck with xp, i despise vista :P only other thing i can try i guess is to format. what say you?

bigchump
01-18-2008, 11:23 AM
I think format is too drastic.
If I understand correctly, everything is ok then you install 4.09b. You don't like it because you can't use online, so you go back to original. Then you change conf.ini and now you are kaput. Correct?

Is everything else running ok?
If so, I think format is a bad idea UNLESS 46 is your main thing.

Have you tried stress test like 3dMark06?
I'd try that before format.
good luck

01-18-2008, 11:31 AM
i couldnt say abut the 4.09b i installed it but didnt really play it but it worked that was about a week ago now from when i uninstalled it. i reinstalled 46 and patched it to 4.08 yesterday tried it out and it worked, worked even after i stuck my old confi in there. everything else runs fine except this poxy game >_< ive never had trouble with it before, i did the 3d bench mark when i 1st got my comp up and running to see what it would run like no probs there apparently it was in the region of top fastest comps. I have no problems with any other game ive also tried uninstalling my audigy 2 soundcared and using the onboard one but that also had the same results so i stuck my audigy back on

If it works with the sound disabled, and also with a fresh config.ini, then theres your problem.

copy the sound part of the config.ini from an unaltered fresh installed version :-

This is mine set up for my system, just to show you the part to copy/paste and delete...

[sound]
SoundUse=1
SoundEngine=1
Speakers=0
Placement=0
SoundFlags.reversestereo=0
RadioFlags.Enabled=1
RadioEngine=2
MusicVolume=8
ObjectVolume=14
MusState.takeoff=1
MusState.inflight=1
MusState.crash=1
MusFlags.play=1
MasterVolume=14
Attenuation=7
SoundMode=1
SamplingRate=2
NumChannels=2
SoundExt.occlusions=0
SoundFlags.hardware=1
SoundFlags.streams=1
SoundFlags.duplex=1
SoundExt.acoustics=0
SoundExt.volumefx=0
SoundFlags.voicemgr=0
SoundFlags.static=1
VoiceVolume=12
Channels=2
SoundExt.extrender=0
SoundFlags.bugscorrect=0
SoundSetupId=8
ActivationLevel=0.02
Preemphasis=0.85
RadioLatency=0.5
AGC=1
PTTMode=1
SoundFlags.UseRadioChatter=0
SoundFlags.AutoActivation=0
RadioFlags.PTTMode=0
RadioFlags.PlayClicks=0
ActLevel=0
MicLevel=0
SoundFlags.forceEAX1=0

Copy this part from a fresh .ini into the old .ini that you are trying to use, and obviously delete this part of the old .ini which is causing you problems.

I hope thats clear, if you need more explanation pls tell.

What we need is the [sound] part of a working/default .ini pasted into your altered old .ini which is no longer working.

Xiolablu3
01-18-2008, 01:19 PM
Or you could try using your currently non-working, old config.ini, but before running the game, go into IL2setup.exe and set up the sound options to default, or the most generic/safe you can get.

I have two identical puters sitting side by side. Same mobo,drives,memory - everything the same. All of a sudden one of them can't connect to my network anymore. I hadn't changed anything (or so I thought). Three days of hair pulling later I found out the nforce networking drivers I had updated didn't install properly on one machine. Device manager said all was ok but when I did a binary compare on the drivers I saw that they were different! So I do a rollback on the offending machine driver and problem gone... took three days, three long days....

Maybe a system rollback is worth a try before formatting, provided you have a recent restore date. Because everything else is ok on your rig, I think it has to be something between your sound drivers and 46 going on.

good luck

EDIT: Nevermind, its fixed now...

maybe it was trying to read sound off the disc and failing, or just failing to authenticate the disc in some way.

I had the problem when I first got Il2 1946 that the disc would just spin on startup when trying to authenticate the disc, so my fix was the same as yours.

Just bad luck with the make of disc and our drives I guess. Some dont work too well togther..

Its not '1C Maddox games' fault, its UBIsofts disc protection/quality of discs which is at fault.

Glad its sorted for you! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yeah, its not a problem with your computyer/the game after all, its just that teh DVD is a bit dodgy in some drives, and causes some problems, as it did for me.

UBI have a no tolerence policy on no-cds as they can be used for piracy so lets shut up about them now, I dont think they will mind us sorting out your problem with the legitamate game with one however. Its quite evident that you have the original DVD.

Also they DO save you from having to get the disc out of the box every time you want to play it, and so it never gets damaged.

It IS quite ironic that it took that to fix your problem howver http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Enjoy the game once again...

Mate, dont bother buying a new one until you have problems with another DVD - like I said I had the same problem when I tried to play the game, its just that the game would not start at all, the disc just kept spinning in the drive.

Quite a few people have had problems int he same way with teh IL2 1946 DVD's, they seem to be particlularly bad in this way in some perfectly good drives.

So dont go running out to buy a new DVD drive just yet.
