Regarding the water - I don't know exactly what do you mean by "needs some more work". Have you EVER seen such water in ANY pacific flight sim? Say nothing, I know what you are thinking - I didn't think so either. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif If you are experiencing video artifacts, quit whining and get the recommended drivers, or post your problems here. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Every "living" piece of software is under constant development, so "when they are at it", they will sure do a watier water for you in the next generations of this game series... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Regarding the sound - I like it the way it is, but sure, it could be improved. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I just remember the problems in 2002 and 03 when this was attempted, lot of users was complaining about sound "issues" as not having any sound at all, hearing terrible cracks and artifacts and so on. Personally, I would rather have the current, working scheme, than something "bleeding edge new", which
1) I can't hear
2) I have problems with
3) Sucks my CPU processing power (if applicable)

And last, but not least: http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif If you don't like the sound samples - sample your own, and provide them to Oleg Maddox, or the community - i am sure one of these two authorities will make them available to public and you can be the proud contributor to this game. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Just measure the time it takes you, and take that into consideration, when making another polls like this one... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I say "NO".

Particularly on sound engine.

Yes, it's not the same level of quality as many other things, but it's still part of the core code from IL-2 Sturmovik.

Bugfixes/new planes/more campaigns is good enough.

Get to work on BoB and beat the gaming industry into submission again.

Excactly!

the water is stunning at water lv 0,1,2. we dont need a fix that makes it look like Silent hunter 3,or the water in Morrowind.we only need a water thats run nice on our computers,it´s only piece of the ground, where we pilots don´t belong, since this is not a ground sim.

I had not been satisfied with the sound in FB and AEP either, but just held off b****ing. Sound for MGs weak, cannon almost nonexistant. But I recently had to reinstall WinXP and drivers for everything and now the sound is good-excellent... This was a brand new system factory built with audigy-gamer sound card and before the HD crash everything seemed OK except the sound for FB & AEP. I suggest completely removing sound drivers and even the card itself and starting from scratch. It may help, a lot more than seems obvious.

"Nay" und "Nay".

Sound engine seems quite good, maybe your hardware or configuration needs tuning/replacing? (no insult intended, just guessing. a friend of mine has a fancy built-in 5.1 audio on his motherboard, but it sounds AWFUL on PF no matter what configuration you try (safe, minimal, SBLIVE, ...))

Second, about the water, PF is the first version of IL2 where I can actually use 'perfect' settings without limiting my FPS to 5. I now enjoy it all the time thanks to this thread (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=26310365&m=2601031432) .

that's my opinion anyways. who's guy's sig was it anyways? the one that reads 'Opinions are like 4rseh0les (content filter bypass;p), everyone has 'em and they all stink!' http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Excellent water does its purpose...its a bit definitionless but its ok. I flew with it for a while on the Pacific map that came with FB 1.21 before I went up to Perfect mode.

Sounds aren't fantastic but its great for its dynamic acoustics so I'll accept it as is. You may want to work with your sound card a bit...that can really help give the sound definition.

I found by putting my sounds though an amp and some big speakers with a subwoofer they seem allot better (although talking to someone on TS is very scary!), The Merlin still sounded like a lawnmower however but the Yak's engine is spot on. I've heard one for real and the one in IL2:FB is very similar. I had PC desktop speakers for a while but its a bit pointless IMO trying to replicate the sound and expecting something remotely as loud and in your face as a Pratt & Whitney Double Wasp R-2800 through 2 6 inch speakershttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Nothing wrong with the water check your video card, drivers and settings. Sound is great on my 7:1 surround sound with EAX etensions enabled. Check your soundcard, drivers and settings.

Suggest replace audio drivers with new ones, makes a huge difference. Audio was real bad with old audigy drivers, excellent with new ones.

I'd like to see someone make a sound pack like zzspace did for LOMAC. Talk about taking the sounds to a new level...........

This picture has been doctored a little and the resolution appears to be high enough to be unplayable on most current systems.

HOWEVER, I agree that the water is one area which needs little attention in PF.

These mirror effects are really that fine, first time it left me flabbergasted as I flew my Wildcat in a low turn over the water. I spotted my shadow, but I also so my mirror image.

The effect is very good.

I didn't play FB much on Perfect so I never noticed it before if it already had been part of its effects.

The graphics are good, period.

What I find odd is the complaints about lack of graphics, while I am pushing my 3.4 Ghz, 1GB@533, x800xt to perform at the level I find acceptable on Perfect (that is an average above the mid 30-ies). What do you people hava at home, Crays??

I can second that.

Also my performance improved between Audigy and Audigy 2. But to get the max FPS I only use the minimal accelerated sound settings. Sound still appears to be a resource hog in this game.

Maybe you should toss up some pictures of your Excellent water and see if its got something wrong with it driver or configuration wise.

I never found the old Excellent water to be a problem.

Sadly, the Il-2 Engine makes that impossible for two reasons: The container file system it uses is well-nigh uncrackable (AFAIK), precluding the customization of core stuff like that. And, more importantly, Il-2 doesn't use audio samples, but rather "synthesizes" them.

Speaking of sounds. When the canopy is open you should hear a lot of engine and wind noise. Currently there is no difference.

I for one wonder what's wrong with the water?
If you're talking framerates, Oleg's explained before that he knew it wouldnt be playable on the "average" computer.
Not many people could run pefect mode when FB first came out, but now tons of people can.
PF will be the same way, over time we'll all get to use it as we force ourselves to upgrade, as we become slaves to the technology we love so much http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Hobbies are so exspensive these days.
As for sound, i dont think it's that awful, but it could be improved.
Personally i'd like the canons to have a little more "thump" to em http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

This I agree with.

Adding a wind rush, amplified slightly by speed would help alot (perhaps the easiest sound to synthesize), so would increasing the volume on the engine.

Nothing wrong with the water but sheesh the sounds are so horrible no matter what ive done.

New Driver switch this and that and it still sounds like a Briggs and Stratton on steriods.

Maybe thats Olegs little way of getting us to at least mow the lawn if we think we are flying are favorite bird then its not so bad then.

Odd, but IMHO the sound does change. There is more wind noise and the engine sounds less deep.
