View Full Version : Couple of things about A1 in 4.07?

Firstly. I would like to thank my Wife for letting me Install 4.07 before XMAS. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I have noticed a great tendancy for the A1 enemy to now go into a climb when approached as opposed to the usual dive and twist.

This has made it very hard for me to catch them as i appear to run out of momentum long before they do. Also I Blackout, following many of their manouvres.

Also. Does the A1 have limited Ammo. This is something I have noticed throughout the series.
I.E. when I look at someone else in my flyte the appear to be chasing an enemy and firing long bursts to no avail. long after I have run out of ammo. And I tend to use short bursts.

So, the A1 is different after 4.07?

Different planes have different AI combat models. Some always climb - so they can Z & B you. The 109 in particular always climbs. In one mission, I was flying on autopilot about 500 meters above the stukas I was escorting and then some Yaks came into view. The 109 bolts practically vertically up another 1000 meters. Meanwhile the stukas have dived and the Yaks have followed them to about 500 meters altitude. I take the 109 off auto and find I'm sitting at 5000 meters altitude - far too high to Z&B - while the Yaks are happily frying the 87's.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

My brother, turn off blackout/redout

The AI doesn't use it, why should you? The instant they start playing fair, so will I<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I think the AI in 4.07 is good. I know that in 4.04 they did impossible "red out dives" and "black out climbs" so I stuck to 4.03. But in 4.07 I havent saw any of them doing that. The only buggy type things I've noticed are very minor, fuel guages not matching chosen loadout. Other than that...

AI has limited ammo -- both fighter guns and bomber gunners.

About the blackouts, Follow Chuck.

I prefer blackouts enabled, but I do turn off the engine overheat gameplay which never worked well anyways in this sim, and the AI never uses it, and too many cockpits don't offer some radiator setting indicator which because of the horribly designed cyclical rad flap controls, forces you to play with the hud text pasted on the sky all the time just to see your radiator settings. I refuse to play with hud text enabled.

Note, if I recall, some aircraft have rad indicators in the cockpit, and the I-185 has the most immersive indicator in the flaps themselves visible over the cockpit when opened. The I-185 gunsight view when flaps are open is almost Fw-esque. Very challenging. When I played this sim, I actually enjoyed engine overheat ON with the -185.

Now, if you play Online vs humanoids who like playing with hard self-messerschmidtism settings, you will have to do the same.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Remember that many claim, especially online, that other people including the AI always back out before they do. While I'm not convinced that the AI blacks out or avoids the situation of a black out I can tell you that most people follow a lead pursuit attack method which means they pull tighter turns to generate lead on the target and they end up blacking out. The AI almost always does a lag pursuit.

Try it. Especially in the jets.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Sounds good to me VW-Icefire.
I do tend to turn that bit tighter to gain a lead.(Will now try to steer clear of Noob. Pursuit fighting.
And to think WW2, would be almost over in the amount of time I have been playing this Sim http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
Must stop Guaging this Sim as a "Shoot 'em up" and learn to start flying the darn thing. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

That's very good news, I stuck with 4.03 too, for exactly the same reasons. How about AI deflection shots, are they better now?

Have you tried the new Nate then? There is a new king in town, it's got a lovely animated handle under the gunsight which winds as you alter the rad settings - really nice touch.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I wouldn't say their deflection shooting is any different but I think the overall feel of dogfighting is much better, more intense, more fun. I dont know if its due to changes in the FM or the new joystick settings. The new stick settings are pretty subtle but I notice a "softer" feel to it.

I suppose it has a lot to do with what your favourite ride is. I like the FW series and they handle much better than they did before. I find I am now much more likely to get involved in fast, rolling scissors than before. The enemy AI also seem keen to get into this type of fight.

I haven`t had the chance to test AI properly yet, but went after 2 109F in a Spitfire Vb and it was actually hard work getting them. They avoided quite realisticly and I didn`t see them do anything stupid. I enjoyed the fight.

I also noticed what an online squadm8 noticed. there seems to be little or no shake anymore to the Spit cannons.

As for the rest of it I always keep blackout and redout, the AI needs all the help it can get.

Will keep testing AI. Could be good news bringing me back to IL2 offline again! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Yep, gotta agree with that. I find I'm riding the edge of the blackout quite a lot, but the enemy stays in sight at the top of my screen, which gives the impression he is also close to blackout. And yes, I think they are harder to hit too. They dont sit still in front of you for very long at all.
