View Full Version : OT Signing in / Cookie problem

For some reason after my last re-install of XP I am having to repeat the signing in process on this forum - this is every time I open a new Explorer window and is beginning to be quite annoying.

This still happens after I have checked the tick box for "remember me on this computer"

Also it still does it even with or without my firewall software.

I never used to have this problem before my last re-install of Windows - I was always signed in day after day.

Does anyone have any solutions?

I'm having exactly the same problem.
I've never had it before and i've never re-installed windows or anything like that.

You're right, it is annoying.
I am also interested in a solution.

D.

P.S. I have'nt posted in a week or so because i was asked to sign in every time i tried and it would'nt work, that's even more annoying. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Oh, thank you!

I thought, it was just me!

But for virus reasons (really nasty Trojan), I had to reinstall my Windows XP April 20th, and since then I have had the exactly same problem, but with this forum only! I don't have this problem with the subsim forum...

Very odd, indeed!

Ha! I thought it was my problem.
I can report it some 14 days old. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

I'm having the same problem too. I thought it was a problem my password software (Roboform), but it would seem that the Ubi forum moderators/admins have changed the cookie expiry date, or something like that.

....Now that I have logged back in....So, it's not me then after all - it seems like it could be Ubisoft forums causing some problems http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

Yup, me too! I don't think it has anything to do with having reinstalled Windows. I use a number of computers to visit this forum and it is the same with each of them. I can close my browser, reopen immediately and still have to log in again. Bummer.

The same addiction here http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/agreepost.gif

Celeon likes these fin cookies you can get at the IKEA homecenters but they are expensive http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

I wonder what these sneaky fins put in them that makes Celeon so cookie hungry http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Do you Europeans ever see any "President's Choice" cookies? PC is a line of food products by the Canadian company I [used to until I got injured] work for. I know we ship them to the States and other places. They make a very popular chocolate chip cookie that is really heavy in chocolate chips and made with real butter. Very yummy, go down well with a glass of milk. Some of the PC products are imported from Europe, such as Belgian cookies which sell well at Christmas. The "President" in PC is not after the American president, but after the president of our company who came up with the idea of marketing a line of high quality food products from around the world.

Nope. Cant remember to have seen them.

Ah yes and by the way : Correction. Its Sweden not Finland what i was talking about http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif Dont know why i mixed that up http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

Swedish butter cookies http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif They taste great http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I guess the States is the biggest market for PC products. When I was shunting trailers in our yard, I used to handle containers of PC products going down to Bermuda. When I go to Britain to visit my wife's relatives over there I always take over several bags of our PC cookies, then fill my case with English chocolate bars for the return trip [plus duty free liquor, of course.] When I figure in the exchange rate, I figure English chocolate to be less expensive than Canadian chocolate. I am particularly fond of the English Cadbury chocolate bars. Of course, there aren't many chocolate bars that I don't like, but legislation dictates what each country legally can call "milk chocolate." To me, English chocolate is better than Canadian and Canadian chocolate is better than American.

Yup you're losing your cookie info, or it's being 'hijacked' http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'm running firefox as my browser and only allow 'per-session' cookies (they get deleted when I leave the site). I have to login everytime I rejoin, but prefer this than having my PC 'data-mined'

Why me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

I thought you overseas are sitting at the source. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

The company that produces it belongs to the Altria Group (former Philip Morris Inc.) so i assumed that you can buy it nearly everywhere in the world now.

UBI must be upgrading their web software.. and somebody botched up the 'logged in records/Database' http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Typical of serial programming methods (like windoze)... requires restart/re-login http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

I don't think this is an accident. The forum's cookies (information stored by the website on your computer about your log in details/status) are now set to expire at the end of your session, i.e. when you leave the website. My guess that this is a policy that the Ubi moderators/admins have changed across all their forums. The reason? Maybe because they have had some security and/or forum abuse issues.

I think it's very unfair and arrogant of Ubi not to make an official announcement. Many users will be very confused about the change and, like Goose_Green, assume that there is something wrong with their system. That sucks http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Ubi should explain what they have done, why they have done it and apologise for the inconvenience to users, most of whom are customers - perhaps they need to be reminded of that fact http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

BDU..to..VG..
'Have you discovered nuclear power for our VII's. You've been submergerd for a LLLooonnnnggg time'

'Well, talk of the devil'... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif (Da Vinci Codes http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif)

Hey VG, Nice to hear from you again, BDU had reported you lost ??

Sorry to compromise your submission, but I think UBI has brought in some 'Newbies' - you know their 'staff turnover' - and they've completely botched the works...

Wait for it... the 'Mods' will be sent an 'Official message to distribute to you and I', which will explain nothing about their inability to resolve the problem. In essence it'll implicitly divulge their incompetence to resolve the problem as the original programmers have lonnnggg left, and hide the fact that they've brought in 'New young blood' to remedy this crisis - I will not mention names http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif.

Observation is at hand... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
Gee I seem to get straight to the point sometimes http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

hehe.... Actually I've been here, just not as often as before due to work commitments http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif (I've probably been posting 3-4 times per week)

Maybe I have been returning to port after you'd set sail.

Yeah I have no expectations of Ubi to get things working as they were before. From what I know about forum software, the cookie expiry time will be a setting somewhere in the admin controls. It would take someone (who knows what they are doing) about 10 seconds to fix http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif TIP OF THE DAY
To help ease the repetitive pain of logging in, I throughly recommend a superb little program called Roboform (http://www.roboform.com/).

I'll tell you something else I've noticed...

E-mail notifications from this forum seem to take much, much longer these days. Has anyone else noticed this?

It could be a delay caused by my e-mail service (I use Google's excellent GMail), but I doubt it.

Like BueJack's post above - 11 hours have passed and I still haven't received a notification from the forum. I just happened to check the thread to see if anyone had posted.

PS - I have some invitations left for GMail (http://mail.google.com/mail/help/intl/en/about.html) accounts. PM me if you want one (I'm pretty sure GMail accounts are still invitation only)
