Hi all,

The day before Duxford I dropped and smashed my beloved digital camera so I ended up taking an old Yashica twin lens reflex and black and white film to Duxford. Although the camera isn't much good (fungus and bubbles in lens etc.) I'm actually quite pleased as I reckon my photos look a little different from other people's.

You can see them here:

The flightline walk is open until 1230 every year, so it pays to arrive at a decent time. And yes, the last one is a Shilka - it also pays to look in the "junkyard" round the back of the Land Warfare hall - this year it was quite empty but it still had an Su-85, JSU-152, Shilka, T-55, Centurion etc. Not often you see the Su's in this country.

Forgot to say - did you see in one of the hangars some guys had set up some PC's - they were charging kids a quid to play that 'other' flight sim!! Evil, trying to convert kids to the dark side...

It wasn't even that one, it was bloody CFS1, seriously. It was all in a good cause - raising money for the Mark Hanna surgery charity. RSColonel and I had some harsh words with the guy though /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I think your pictures look better in black and white than they would have with a digital camera. Good job and smart thinking!

Ian you dont cease to surprise.

I appreciate photography very much, and you're a undoubtedly a good photographer...

Nevertheless, I'm commenting here the only ones you didn't take, but only modified: "Eastern Front Colour" ones.
One word: wonderful.

Good stuff Ian and thanks.

I've got hundreds of pics taken here in Florida at local airports, airshows and various aviation attractions (i.e. Fantasy of Flight and 8th Air Force Museum)but the ability to only post a half dozen or so. I always take them with the thought of sharing...maybe someday. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Hey, Ian, wonderful pics. Thanks for showing them. Also I'd like to say thanks for the LOMAC war stories, I missed getting to say that on the LOMAC forum.

Sorry to hear of you loss of the digital camera. Ever since I got my Minolta S414 4 megapixel, I've not used film any more. I'd cry a river if I lost it.

Nice pics BUT, the "Memphis Belle" plane is not the original!!

She never had a turret under the nose! She now resides on Mud Island, Memphis,TN and is currently under restoration!

Ian...

Wow... I saw you at the show! I didn't see anyone else with a twin lens reflex anyway! hehe... I did think it was a rather interesting choice of camera...

Always annoys me that the sun comes from behind the planes at Duxford... you always get dark planes... most annoying...

Here are a few of my photos:

There are some video files of the La-9 too (because I knew all the IL-2'ers would be interested! - I think of these things lol)

Sweet pictures..I always get a knot in my stomach when I remember all the pics I took in 1991 at Duxford on the 50th anniversary of the battle of Britain...the bleeding camera shutter was broken...all I got was non exposed film......aaaghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Tsisqua - yes, I think anyone can use anything posted on the net.

Papaboon - No, it is actually the Sally B, which was the Memphis Belle in the film. It has the Sally B markings on one side and the MB markings on the other.

JCarruthers - yes, that must have been me. I'm sdure no-one else had a TLR. I like your photos too.

IIRC not if it has been copyrighted (although most of the time it is not worth the copyrighter's time to take court action- unless alot of money has been made by the illegal use of the pictures)

Sally B the B-17. I was lucky enough to get inside her at Biggin Hill Air show. And all it cast was â£4. Bargin! Had a good chat with the crew and maintainers and held the 50 cals. Was exelent. Also got inside a C47 and the main body section on a Lancaster. I have a photo of me in the Lanc pilot seat. Was exelent.

Really nice photos... wish I had tried to get more photos in the air...

Trouble is - you end up watching everything through a camera... and not the show...

I never understand those people - the guy in front of me watched the whole show through his DV camera! Whats the point in that!

It was sad about the loss of the Fairey Fulmar
at Duxford, also a sad loss to any old players
of Warbirds.
