Why did the Germans mount all their gunsights off center? Everyone else went with centered gunsights, why not the germans?

But WHY are they off-center? I've wondered this myself...

it is to help aiming, in reality the germans could aim with there right eye so do not have to change the head or seat position.

The VVS - Pilots have to change there head position to aim.

Well in game the effect is quite different...^^

I think I read that this was made, so you had a better view for landing etc.
Think I also read, that they could just "push" the Gunsight to the side and back (Shift-F1), but I'm not sure about that...

Even so it's weird. Have you seen the gunsite in the me-262? It's all the way over on the edge! Go shift f1 a few times, and it's a substantional change.

Does anybody else think it might be a good idea to add 'optional' historically inaccuretecy as reguards to this?

No need to post twice, but no. Keep the historical accuracy. It`s helped me learn something too. I`ve killed in 109`s etc and not even noticed it after the first flights.

Still, it does make me wonder of the German logic of the time. There must have been a good reason- I guess I`d have to fly one for real to really know.

No sig as of now, as people apparently can't handle reality without creating too much trouble for the poor mods.

This is a little off the ww2 line, but the manual backup weapons sight in an F/A-18 Hornet is also off center...it's in the upper right hand corner of the HUD, and it's etched in just in case the HUD blinks out.

Most people are right-handed, and also have their right eye as the dominant one. It made it easier for pilots to aim. Like it was stated earlier, closing the left eye would suffice. The 262 model isn't correct...the pilot is sitting WAAAAYYYY too high! The seat should allow the Revi to be at eye level like the rest of the planes. Also, there was a Gyro Gunsite used in the 262 that projected the crosshair right on the windshield. It also automaticaly adjusted for speed and altitude...

i would think for forwad visibility, if you notcie when not in gunsight view on 109 the left side of gunsight is right down the center of cockpit, it might of been used to help line up for landings..shoot i do it

Real world WW2 germans believed in aiming a planes guns like you would aim a rifle....put your dominant eye up to revi and close your other eye for better distance judgement. In a real life luftwaffe plane you would just move your head foward not foward and to the side.

In FB,he camera centers on an offcenter revi and so distorts the screen.

hold your thumb up next to sight, and when the enemy crosses your cuticle, shoot.
