http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif For those of you who have engaged in a convoy attack with this mod:

What are your feelings so far with regard to the escorts ability to detect and maul you?

Are we challenged more than IUb? Less? ...or about
the same?

i started running gw shortly after it came out...i would say that i'm ok with the dd's for the most part..keeps you on your toes so to speak..however if you do need to lower the dd fear factor..you can lower the crew ratings on them by going to the RND file..the 109 boat has taken a few more beatings in gw than rub or iub http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif Interesting. Perhaps I've just been lucky. I've managed to slip away twice without too much effort, but I was certainly detected. I've tried to operate a little smarter lately by
not using higher maneuvering speeds while in close quarters with DD's. Maybe its paying off.

A very interesting discussion!
So is it possible to make the DD's a little more aggressive and persistant in pursuing you?
I mean I would go for a two hour battle in deep water with these guys if I could.
Anybody know how to make the DD's a bit more want to kick your ***?

less agressive lower the crew rating...more agressive raise the crew rating in the RND file...

Another way to increase the challenge is to increase the number of escorts with convoys. This is ahistorical but will make things more challening. The Real Wulfmann mods his games this way; some of his convoys have 13 escorts!

I also think that playing the game at 100% means that the A.I. makes a more honest effort.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif Well, I needn't have concerned myself.
After trashing a hunt type destroyer off Freetown, I was attempting to slip off from a convoy attack when another made an attack run. I was deep and making evasive manuvers, but I must have turned into a cluster of depth charges. Oct 13, 1942
U-107. 5th patrol. Damn! I'm going to miss old Gunther; he was rather good.

Scheissedreck! The U-Waffe lose another experienced Kaleun. Bet you'll be smarter with your next career, eh?

i use wulfman's idea of all my escorts crew''s are rated 3 after getting the new ships installed and getting used to them ..the boat has been looking beat up getting back into lorient..i did however have a little run in with a v-w dd that DID run out of dc's ...2 hr's of getting hammered..in the chanel..i was happy but it kept up the attack by running over me ..we lost 4 men during the dc attack..and limped home on 1 powerplant and 1 bank of batteries...it was a long cruise home....the boat had a new cammo of big black spots all over and the weapon mounts had a kind of crazy twist thing going ..the scopes were destroyed...and the toilet paper is still missing.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

So where do I find RND file?

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif Oh, and one more thing... Before Gunther's U-107 was sunk, he had bagged a Bogue Escort carrier in a convoy near the straights of Gibralter. (my best kill to date)

It is in the data/campaigns/campaign folder.
It opens by clicking on it to notepad. It is very large but the convoys are RNDGroup 60-118 which make them easy to find.
Before you mess with the RND make a copy incase you make a mistake. One mistake will cause CTD.
As you scroll through an easy way to make things tougher with minimal risk is to limit your changes to increse crew rating to 3 (veteran) and if y6ou choose to add more just increase the number for existing escorts (if it says 1 make it 2 etc)

NYGM have already addressed the escort skill levels and on top of that improved the AI's ability to see and hear while reducing the AI's ability to see at night.

During the day a escort may see your u-boat as far out as 10,000 metres while at night I have been as close as 800 metres and not been seen.

We have the distances governed by aspect, so if during the day you keep your bow to the escort instead of 10,000 metres you may get as close as 4000 metres.

We have redone the Hydrophone and Sonar and now the Silent Running does not have a Klingon Cloaking Device effect where you could go right under the escort at periscope depth.
