hi,
i am currently on mission 8 - the mission where i have to lead 4 h8ki's to torpedo a ship - and i cannot get them to follow me. my rank is Tai-sa.

can you please explain what i have to do to control the ai aircraft. i did this campaign about a year ago and managed to sink the ship, but i can't remember what to do. i order them to rejoin, change formation, etc. and they always give a radio response, but they continue to fly in circles and never follow me to sink the ship.

i'm afraid i will have to start shooting these cowards down for not following orders. please save the crews of these planes with any ideas to get them to listen to me.

thanks.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Have you ordered them to attack the ship?

unable to comply. they are too far away.

all they do is circle around their last waypoint. i remembered they followed me a year ago. i had to do the mission a couple times before i got them into a good attack position. and i remember going through the same problem.

i hate being lead plane in any mission. same problem with the 2nd campaign, Straight Into an Icy Hell. can't get past mission 4 cause i have to control ai planes.

why don't they listen. don't they realize i will send them to a watery grave?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Noticed this too in Straight-and-True (IL-2T).

If I remember correctly, it works best when you do not order them anything at all, untill you've positioned them towards/near the target.
Then have 'm attack the ships.... but it's been a while, I might be wrong!<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

i looked in the fmb for clues.

i am squadron 1 flight 1.
they are squadron 1 flight 4.

they fly to their 3 waypoints and circle at the last. they don't follow and they are too far from the ship.

the campaign description tells me to take the highest rank possible. is Tia-sa the highest rank?<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Highest one available on my system, when I start an IJA campaign, so I tend to say 'yes' http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

As for the AI in those missions, ask Zeus-Cat about them. One mission in IL-2T campaign with the problem, has a target set for the other flights to 'escort' plane#1, your plane.
Maybe that's a clue, maybe AI behaviour has changed somewhere along the line... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Edit: Hi Quazi, and thanks !

thanks Quazi and FoolTrottel. i'm using 4.04m. i sent Zues-Cat a pm earlier but this was driving me nuts and hoped that others who played that campaign might shed some insight.

i really wanted to get a grasp on what i'm doing wrong cause i want to get past the 4th mission in Icy Hell. these are fun campaigns to get me familiar with this sim again.

edit: got pm from Zues-Cat. i'm off to try his suggestions.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I've already replied to zoinks via PM, but I thought I should post a response here too.

The AI aircraft will follow you in this mission if you wait for them at the rendezvous point and then fly off towards the target once they meet up with you. If you get more than 2 or 3km from them they will "lose" you and return to their last waypoint. The most critical time is when they reach the rendezvous point with you. Do not turn and fly off to the target before you line up with them. If you do fly off right away they will probably get lost as they don't turn very quickly.

Once you reach the target, close to within 2km and issue the "target all" command. The Ai will probably break off and set up their attack run.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
