No. The heavies (B-17, B-24, etc) take too much time to model because of all the gunner positions.

Nobody's even tried, and there's no material time to do it. A pity... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

A while ago it looked like someone was attempting to make a B-29 but I don't think there had been any news on the project in a while.

I'm tired of hearing that there are too many gunner positions to do a B-17. The B-25 has about 5. The B-17 would have like 3 more.

What is it like?: 2 side gunners, tail gunner, top turret, ball gunner, cheek gunner, chin turret, bombardier/gunner.

You would have the pilot, no copilot, no radio operator.

It's not getting done, 'cause no one wants to do it or Oleg doesn't want one. They certainly could do it if they wanted.

There are a number of other issues that may make the effort seem not worthwhile.

There would be no way to fly a historically accurate bombing run because the maps are too small. Can't take off in UK and bomb Germany.

Also this sim doesn't look very realistic at the high altitudes B-17's would normally fly.

Granted, the aircraft itself may be more complex to model.

And despite the other issues I mentioned, I would want one enough to pay for it. I would love to see a heavy bomber expansion pack with maybe another axis bomber, a campaign for both and a handful of single missions.

Anyway, just my opinion.

Badsight.

medium bombers are what the game can use the best

rather than the heavies

You are right, but I would still love to see a flyable B-17.

Maybe in an eventual Expansion pack for BoB... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Well, I'm not holding my breath. I heard a remake of B-17 the Mighty 8th may some day be in the works. I am also considering getting CFS3 with the Firepower expansion pack just to fly the B-17.

Still, the B-25 is well done and everyone is right. Medium bombers do fit best into this sim.

yesterday on greatergreen I had a blast fighting and escorting two TB3, not sure if they bombed anything but it was fun.

That was made by Boeing, not Grumman. I think it may be a little surprise for us in a later patch. Perhaps this is why the add on has been delayed so long.

I've not touched CFS3 mainly cuz I'm content with IL2, but do the bombers in CFS3 have bomb sights?

It's an addon made by the same people who produced "Firepower"; Shockware...who are bringing out their own Battle of Britain this year.

The detail and modeling of the aircraft in Wings of Power is nothing short of outstanding. Included are several models each of B-17, B-24, Lancaster, B-29, Privateer and some German jets.

The ground handling alone of the B-29 is worth experiencing; try a full bomb/fuel load (over loaded) take off from some of the traditional WWII runways and it's hairy, while landing in a crosswind...not for the faint of heart.

It's well worth the time and best of all, the best deal you'll ever find in flight sims. The package works out to about $3 per aircraft series, each one unsurpassed in modeling and detail.
