I have just released a 45 mission campaign for the A6M Zero. The campaign covers three years and five maps. If you have any questions or need any help, drop a reply on this thread and I will do my best to get back to you.

Wow!

I appreciate the interest in the campaign. However, if those of you who downloaded it could just drop a small line or review when you have the chance, that would be great. I would like to know what you think so I could incorporate those improvements into my next campaign. (I have a regularly scheduled deployment upcoming, so my next campaign has a tentative release date of SEP 06. Don't hold your breath.)

I've just played the first mission, and it was fun. I was surprised (I don't know why!) that the Zero manoeuvred slowly at high speed, which made it challenging for a moment...

One suggestion: Tell the player what skin they should use in the briefing screen - that way they're not the odd-one-out when they take off. You probably assigned the correct skin in the FMB, but the game defaults to whatever skin the player used last.

BTW IIRC that map has a 'low palm tree' version which may be better to use... my system was slowing down over the islands. Not a biggie, though.

Hardball,

You found the one thing that irks me about this sim right away. I don't know why the game does not load the skin in FMB for the player.
O well, bad with the good I suppose. Suggestion noted. My next campaign will inform the player of the proper skin.
You have also found that though it is manoueverable, the Zero is also a handfull at high speeds. In the beginning stages of developing the campaign, I lost a control surface or two before I learned the limitations of the aircraft. Now I don't dive after anything with an inline engine (in the Zero). As soon as they dive, I do an Immelman or a loop and either search for a better target, or wait for them to climb back to me. I got many of my kills from head-ons and high angle deflection shots. The 7.7's obviously are not very effective from astern. One or two well placed cannon rounds however, will down any allied aircraft.
I'm glad to hear that the campaign works. Thanks for downloading it. My next campaign is already under construction.

A big thanks to you Browning50cal, for creating this 45 mission-campaign, those devoted to the Zero aren't that numerous....
I only had time to play the first mission yesterday, and the least I can say is that I'm pretty delighted (apart from the before mentioned small skin problem)
Keep going man !!
Any scoop about what your next campaign will be about ??

micksaf,

I appreciate the good word. FL has been down for almost a day http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif.

One of the main reasons for building this campaign was the niche for it. There are a ton of Corsair, Hellcat, 109, 190, campaigns that nave been produced, but I found very few for the Zero. The other element was that when I reread Sakai's Autobiograpy, I was captivated by legend of the Zero, and was drawn to try and approximate an interactive experience that included many of the emotions that he had described feeling. What I found when I played through the campaign was exactly that. I felt stress, I felt compeled to complete the mission. I felt fear (P-40, F6F), and elation. I felt anger when I saw a wingman fall in flames.

I don't really know if I want to give this away in case somebody beats me to it, but I am constructing a campaign featuring the Austrailian "Ace of Aces". P-40's and 109's. Spit's and Zeros. Desert and Ocean.

Suprisingly enough, for being the US aircraft that produced the most aces and shot down the most enemy aircraft, there are almost no campaigns made with the F6F, There will be 2 that I know of soon though. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

B50, you are better off letting your fellow mission builders know what you are working on because they (we) are surprisingly adverse to stepping on others' toes when it comes to duplicating topics. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I have been trying to DL your Saburo Sakai campaign after having read "Samurai" and numerous accounts of various actions from the US side. Maybe I will have better luck tomorrow. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
