I have a question for the Gustav experten.

Does the U4 load out (i.e., with the MK108 engine gun instead of the MG151/20 engine gun) have any effect on the performance of the Gustav in-game? I seem to recall some postings here where people complained that it makes the nose too heavy or something.

I can't say I've ever noticed a difference on the G-6 or the G-6_late, but then I don't use the MK108 much so I may have missed it.

Is there actually a difference, and if so, has anybody ever measured it?

cheers,
Ratsack

I rarely use the Mk108 unless its forced on me, (I'm a long range sniper, and the 151/20 does the job better for me) however it SEEMS to be heavier in the nose, but I am not sure whther it really is or not.

The later 109's definitely feel heavier in the nose than the F4 or G2 models, but that may be the engine and added MW50 piping, plus the pooor high speed control, not sure.

I hope this is not seen as a "high-jack", but a question along the same lines...

What is the difference between "ME109G6" and "ME109G6 late"? Is it the "Erla Haube" canopy?

Later Mks of the 109 should "feel" heavier as a result of their evolution. It should NOT be because of the Mk108, which has been shown to weigh very little, if any more than the 20mm setup.

The difference in weight between the Mk108 and 20mm is not modeled in the game if there is much difference. Oleg generally did not model such slight differences to simplify things.

As far as the difference between the G6 and the G6 Late, as one poster pointed out, the late has the new canopy. Also the late model was supposed to have lot more wood in the tail section to make it lighter.

The performance difference between the two is indeed modeled in the game, with the Late being a tiny bit faster at all altitudes, but it's not enough to be perceptible. It amounts to 3 kph faster at sea level and 4 kph faster at 7000 meters. This equates to only 2.485 mph or 2.16 knots faster at 7000 meters.

To me it doesn't feel different, but I never tested. I do feel a difference between G-6 and G-6late, so if there comes any with the MK108, it's got to be really small.

IIRC difference in game was 4km/h in level speed (was 6AS model mind you).
I never really measured the difference in RoC.

Just to be clear, you're saying that you've seen a difference between the MG151 and MK108 armed G-6/AS, although you've not measured it. Is that right?

This isn't directly relevant, but bears out what has been said about there being no differences to keep things simple. Tested the 190A-8 with default and Mk-108 loadouts, and sea-level max speed was identical (591 kph, 100% 'pp', rad closed). Haven't checked to see if turn/climb rate is also unaffected.

He is saying that he read someplace that the speed difference was 4kph. He did not do a climb test.
