I have tried something similar to this, maybe even from the same author, and had trouble getting everything to work.
That was over a year ago, I think. Perhaps things are different now.
This is the best sound I have heard to date.

this is very cool.

Id be interested in hearing more.

with out being too critical, the external passes sound dubbed in over the game, but if it is really the game... then kick ***.

That is a very nice Sound-mod.
Would be interesting if one also does get the more or
less subtle indications that the engine is damaged
as in the original sound.

Gun port whistle on the 51 is a bit overdone, but still very cool and very absent in IL2 original sounds.

I've heard some that really howl and others that aren't so apparent - what must be remembered is that it only occurs under 'g' - or i suspect more accurately when the angle of attack is above a certain value, so it depends very much on the energy with which it's being flown.

I doubt that Il2 could be programmed to account for this, so it's probably a all or nothing deal.

I personally vote all! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

Very nice http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif...But wouldn't it be as simple as just dropping a few new .wav files into the right folders with these new sounds?

Excellent points tomtheyak. I would wager you are correct that the AoA issues would be a bit involved. I also vote "all".

I hope this is not a joke. If these sounds make it into the sim, it will add years more enjoyment. Best of luck to Tiger_33 in his efforts.

To say its good is an understatement.

Team D should look into this for the engine sounds. Hey Dr Herb you should post this over in the 1C forums so the Team D guys that hang out there will see this.

Man the Corsair! And the P-47 sounds like it should. Oh wow. I sure hope this comes out.

however some of the other ones like the stress, the wings torn off, or the whistle of the P-51, didn't sound realistic.

But the engine sounds are right on

I never really understood Oleg's explanation for the Il-2 sound effects. Mods have made it very clear that the sound processing and effects (doppler, etc.) work just as well with actual recordings as they do with the original "Il-2 synth" effects. I think it was less about technology and more about either not having the budget to license authentic sound recordings or not having the budget to make authentic sound recordings.

I rather doubt it will be any different for TD, especially considering that they are working pro bono.

Orgasmatron.

The neighbours are going to love this.

Only beef is the Bf109 doesnt sound so Messerschmitty and the Tempest a little too quiet and without that course howl.

I'll be keeping my Fw190D sound thats at AAA.

Apart from that, i'll take the LOT!.

Hopefully Tiger will pay attention to making the volume of each aircraft relative to those around them. Very few people seem to be able to do that.

Unfortunately, no.
I have tried many times to come up with some very convincing sounds.
There are only so many sound files for different planes/engines/guns in the game.
To come up with a realistic system to account for the many different plane/engine combos takes a bit of work and requires extra sound files which in turn need to be recognized by Il2.

Keep in mind, these sounds stand a 50/50 chance of either sounding really really good, or really really bad, depending on one's rig. Ive re-listened to these and some of the flyby sounds seem a bit mis-timed by maybe a second or so, could be just from the movie recording process too. I just pray the modder will make this compatible with the AAA stuff cause thats the mods I currently use.

I noticed this as well, but can be satisfied in saying that you don't actually hear the aircraft from its exact location during a flyby. There will be a delay from the time it flies by and the actual time you hear it flying by, distance depending on the delay of course.

I was a little embarrassed when my eyes teared up (even though I was alone in the room) but that's what can happen while experiencing true art like a violin concerto etc. For years many of us have considered Oleg's IL2 as a masterpiece. If this sound mod is perfected, it will be a huge compliment to what is already a masterpiece IMHO.

Started listening to it for the second time today and like others I was compelled to hear both of the videos all the way through the first time. Simply astounding!

The sound itself is completely realistic as far as tone/pitch. It's just behaving like an engine sound, where it howls on each pass, no matter what the AoA is.

The P-51 sounds like I've heard it at air shows. I do think the whistle could be "turned down" a bit. Otherwise it sounded like a huge improvement.

I d/l the videos and kept pausing Il-2, alt tab ing over to the video and listen to it, then stop it and play IL-2 . . .

Well if the sounds aren't public domain . . . I just got a funny image of a warbird owner running across the tarmac at the airshow, "you can't record this plane!!! the engine music is copyrighted! Call security! Pirates I tell ya! pirates!!"

Oleg should send a sound engineer to Duxford an record the planes so SOW series can have some sound!

for the 1C. I just got so excited! I would create an account over there just to show them, but I didn't want to steal since it was your discover. But I understand.

Yeah I wish they had a "if it really betters everyone's gaming experience" clause to the mod discussion.

I forgot over there they have less activity and more time to enforce it all and leniency differs than over here.

I've done some sound modding myself, but some of this work trumps anything i've been able to create.

The Il2 sound engine is capable of much more than even what is currently modded. And yes, you could accurately model gun port whistling on the P-51 as well as the radiator whistle on the P-40. I've done it, in fact. The sound itself relies mostly on the presets. You can currently model the angle at which the sound is heard, as well as the speed the sound is heard.

I think the quality of work will depend largely on the quality of the recordings that the sounds are drawn from.

I think this group that is working on this sound mod has many contributors including people who have sent them various audio recordings.
I really don't think there should be any licensing issues here, but that might have to be examined on a case by case basis.

Still, if 20 or 30 people set out to digital record a handful of planes from Il2, sound modding them into the game would be a snap.

so next time you are at an airshow.....etc etc.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
