The guy sounds official, just like my Jeppessen Private Pilot videos, therefore I conclude that this must be legit!

That wav sure summed it up! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

However, you can make a complicated blah blah out of anything be that WWI or WWIII air tactical combat.

Personally I cannot deny that I really have a high opinion of all players that understand 70% of LOMAC.All those dials, switches, abbreviations, codenames.
LOMAC is too much for me and the wav says why it sux majorly for me.

Depends where you are.
Take where you are and subtract where you arn't and add where you need to be to find your deviation from reality.

Most of these things have been fixed in the meanwhile - as the flightmodell and some serious problems with the AI. I gave up playing LOMAC with the new addon, that is payware and only updates Sovjet planes. Although I flew Mig29 most of the time, this imbalanced killed every little trace of online-fun that was left, then. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

It's a good sim, but AI still sucks and online makes little sense. I still have high hopes for the helo-addon.

Its a good sim. Flying the F-15 is a challenge, it takes a bit of practice to learn how to use the radar. I'm not very good though, because I don't have the time to stay in practice or learn new things.

Don't play LOMAC
when I want to fly jets I climb into my Falcon 4.0
not as pretty and crash animations suck, but for real immersion and the feeling of actually accomplishing something...Falcon4.0 all the way.

All you need to *see* a .wav audio file is a sound recorder or editor, such as the Windows Recorder, or Adobe Audition, and you can see the waveform... or just look at the Winamp small visualization after setting it to 'Oscilloscope'

Lomac is incredibly easy, its one of, if not, the easiest "flight sim" I've ever played.

I know exactly where it is, where it shouldnt be, where it wants to be, and where it will be at all times.

Actually LOMAC is quite simple (F4 is a lot of harder) but realy sucks in AI and weapons modeling

I stopped playing LOMAC when I was shot down the 10th time in a row during a campaing without being locked on and no enemy near me.
Then I checked the logs and realized I was shot down by a helicopter with FFARs (unguided missiles) - the Helo was at 120ft, I was at 32.000ft doing evasives. I repeated this to test it and was shot down 9 times out of 10 overflights, no matter how high, how fast or what maneuvers I was doing. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

I know where I am because I know where I'm not.

I know I'm not at home, or on the road, or in Louisiana, or in Europe, or at a bar.

Therefore I must be at work.

I picked up a copy of LOMAC after seeing an F-18 at a local airshow back in the summer: I decided I wanted to see what jet flight/combat is all about. I purchased the Flaming Cliffs add-on as well.

I've had great fun learning about radars, missiles, etc. - I had absolutely no idea - and really like the photo-realistic cockpits and landscapes.

Modern jets are a very different experience to flying WWII prop planes and it's really interesting to get a sense of how combat aircraft have evolved since the 1940s.

And the A-10 is a definite blast http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think if I was ever actually shot down by a helo I would just sit in the cockpit and sulk all the way down. I wouldn't even pull the handle as I don't think I could live with the shame. If I had any stick authority left I would push forward and at least make a bigger fireball.

LOMAC is a very good sim but it has a steep learning curve. After about a week of flying I wanted to turf the thing but then it started making sense and now I enjoy it a lot. I have to mention that I got a ton of help from the LOMAC forum on this site, thanks again to all of you who took the time to answer my questions. With the IL2 series, the systems are simple but the flight model is challenging, with LOMAC it's the other way around.

On top of it's complexity, the sim can be frustrating for it's demanding hardware requirments. The sim is very hard to enjoy if your system can't handle it . As a matter of fact if you read through the LOMAC forums, you'll see that even with a top-of-the-line super PC, the game can still suffer from poor frame rates with all the visuals maxed out.

It should still be part of every simmer's collection.

Good Hunting,
Sillius_Sodus

I just have one question about LOMAC that I'm sure you'll be able to answer.

What drove me away from LOMAC was that I have never owned Track IR and when I played LOMAC over a year ago there were no "snap views" to look around with a hat switch, like we do in IL-2 and pretty much every other sim out there. Supposedly you could customize your snap views to work with a hat but I could never figure it out. So I quit because I refused to fly a game where I couldn't look around =/ I felt like they were trying to force me into buying a track IR.

Well, have they finally added a full snap view system "out of the box" with the latest patches that you can operate with any hat switch?

Thanks.

Love it, right on, no need to crash, would die of shame. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif
Falcon4, now that was a sim, it's a shame that the graphics are so dated now because nobody has come close to that "real war going on" feeling.
Complexity!, you want complexity, F4 has it in spades.

****. I searched the LOMAC forum for them, and they were linked to another thread about movies as though they were current. That sucks, those were the best ones. lol

But Reload is a great example in it's own right of LOMAC, and how, why, and hte fact that, it doesn't suck. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Just wish the PF movie makers would take some cues from the LOMAC movie makers. Pomp and circumstance with the black and white, the drama, the classical music, all that was great the first half dozen times, but now it's just old and boring. LOMAC videos get the adrenaline flowing and make you really want to jump in the pit and take off. They tend to be high energy, high excitement affairs with rockin' soundtracks - and just plain severely more entertaining.

Err.... not to get sidetracked or anything... lol
