I have never seen this in eight weeks of daily playing SH3.
Becasue there was no rain or clouds and the sky was a nice blue it didn't seem so bad. But, I could only make 11Kts flank and the bridge would submerge for more than five seconds at a time. The sub would come completely out of the water at times. When submerged the sub would come higher than surfaced so to hide from escorts and not have the con exposed I had to stay at 25 feet depth. Torpedoes would become airborne for a few seconds at a time.
When I made contact with this convoy it had 12 ships but I was not in poisition and it was near dark. I worked around it and when I made acontact again I was still ou of position but I counted 7 ships now. One was behind the others and there was no rear gaurd now, the trawler was gone. What was up?
I moved in on the rear ship and it had foundered, a Greek small merchant ship. .
I moved around the convoy and it took all day. I still missed posituion some but snuck in and torpedoed the tanker. The surfaced at flanked speed, sinking the other smaller tanker and while running along side did a 60% angled shot (on Manual this was a big deal for me)and sunk a C2 (now called steam cargo) leaving only one C2 and the now 2 escorts. I knew there were more behind so I went under and reloaded. I found 2 more British coastals and torpedoed one but it must have been considered sunk as my watch man reported no visual contact and nothing showed in my log that I had sunk it so I left the other Brit alone.
I had sunk 3 ships, one survived but 8 others were sunk by the storm as well as an armed trawler.
the screen shot below show my U-Boat underwater but it is actually surfaced. I had the periscope up as it would plunge for such long periods I lost contact and had to switch to the peri.. The seas were so tall It was like being in a valley with mountains around you.
I have never seen a storm like this, ever.

Don't you wish they could get rid of that tiling on the ocean? Would be nice... I wonder how it could be done?

I was in a real bad storm once. It was so bad that the watch crew did not show up when I surfaced.

I was in a storm once that lasted my entire trip from the east coast of the U.S. to just south of Ireland ( same patrol and area that I saw the formation of B-24's). 15m winds, heavy precipitation, and heavy fog the whole way. The whole **** ocean was a hurricane. Felt like something out of "The Day After Tomorrow". When I got just south of Ireland it started to clear up. then i started getting all these radar reports near me. Something like 3 C-3's, 2 small merchants, and 2 small tankers, and all reported as stationary. I took my time getting the best fire solutions possible on each, and one by one sent them all to the bottom. Thats when the bomber formation showed up.
I can only guess I ran into the remains of a convoy that had been torn apart by Hurricane Tonnage, and that a rescue effort had been mounted by planes ( wouldn't that be sweet if they really did do rescue attempts).
Oh yeah, I got creddited with all the ships! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I posted it as a BUG several weeks ago.

Although some people believe this to be a feature.... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Of note:
In WWI and WWII several ships rolled over and sank in heavy storms due to ice build-up causing them to become top heavy.

There was a point (winter 1941 I think, don't have the book here) where there were Gale Force winds off of Newfoundland for 126 of 140 days.

See? Exactly like that. If you said you saw a whole convoy steaming backward someone would pipe up and site this ONE instance of where a ship went backward. This must be an intentional feature of the game, not a bug. Isn't this game great.

15ms/ winds are 33.5 mph. And while that's fast, it's not hurricane level. I've even been out in my 14' sailing dignhy in that wind (wasn't the smartest of ideas but was doable).

The fact that these ships are sinking easily in minor storms has to be a flaw in the game. I can't believe 35mph winds would sink large ocean going vessles like this.

Ive been stuck in this massive storm for 2 patrols now, apparently my weather is stuck, but its stuck at 15 meter winds, heavy fog heavy rain =(! needless to say my tonnage is suffering, but so are the boats. Since the weather is so terrible on the 2 patrols ive only seen 2 boats and both sunk for reasons i dont know nor get credit for.

This first one, I get the we been detected sir message, I raise the scope dont see jack but rain and fog, for 20 minutes nothing happens, im like hmm must be a new bug..cause im not detecting engine noise either on the hydrophone even when i cut the engines. then WHAM! it rams me from behind, it came up right behind me. We play the position game for a while. Finally I get a not totally terrible shot at him, but I know for 100% certain it missed even at 350 meters distance cause i watched it, i set the depth on the torp too deep and it ran right under him and ran out a long way. anyways like 2 minutes later my crew goes YEAH! and im like What the heck...so i peak out, and the destoryer is sinking back end first..i didnt get credit for it sinking either....i dont know what happened to it...and i heard no explosions cept when it was sinking so it couldnt of been depth charges...so im guessing it sunk due to the weather..anyways here is the shot of it going down, and i have no idea why it explodes when its going down..cause nothing hit it.

Here is the only other ship ive seen in the last two patrols, pure luck that dead of night had to use the hydrophone like all the way till i was about to ram him. This was the way the ship looked when i popped up to see him. (lighting added so you can even see it lol)

Believe it or not, i watched that ship sail for an hour like that. finally out of boredom i put a torp into the side of it....it sinks..or so i thought...i noticed i never got the ship destoryed message...and indeed nothing in my log...yet the ship rolled over on its side...and..and...sunk..well..90% of it sunk...the bow wouldnt sink!!! and the ships engines were still going! 2kts this ship was sailing like this..(sorry for the darkness)

i watched this for about 20 minutes then turned off the game...i chalk it up to a terrible storm and terrible luck..lol. but i know for certain that a ship cant sail like that..lol =P
