I have recently moved for my studies and have to make do with a laptop. My specs are processor 1.70 ghz, 1.69 ghz , 512 Mb of RAM and RADEON 9200 graphics card.

I'm no expert but I realise that this is not state of the art, anything but.

I'm considering purchasing some extra ram , maybe bring it up to 1 or 2 GB RAM.

Do you think I can run IL-2 respectfully this way?

yes but probably not in full screen but window mode at 800x600 if you want to get adequate framerates. Having 2 gig RAM is almost a necessity in this game

It should work with perfect landscape switched on, but I do not think it will be runnung at playable frame rates...

I think Pixel shaders were introduced in the ATI card with the 8500/9200 series, so you should be able to use hardwareshaders = 1 and Perfect water.

I would leave it at water - 0 or water - 1 with hardwareshaders -1. I believe 0 and 1 settings are the fastest but still look bery nice with shaders on.

Make sure that you pick S3TC as this makes a lot of difference to performance.

I sed to run the Forgotten battles game on a AMD 850 with a Radeon 8500, so it should work pretty well on your laptop. Put it on medium settings with maybe a few on excellent.

It wont run perfect settings smoothly, thats for sure, but it should look pretty nice on medium/excellent settings 1024x768.
