Hello there,

an old kaleun is signing up for duty again. A few of you may remember me being here before. So to you from the old guard, I say a big hello, and to the rest: greatings.

For me to return was a long voyage, so I won't bother any of you with details. Let me instead go straight to the topic of this thread: photos of U-995 in Laboe.
Some of you may be aware of that Subsim made a reunion in Copenhagen in September 2009 for its members plus 3 from the SH5 dev team. And well, I took part of this, and also for the first event, which was a trip to Laboe, so we could see U-995 plus the memorial. And I made lots of photos from the very start in the morning till the end. Out of the total number of photos, I have edited 224 photos, which are the ones I would like to present for you.

All you have to do is to click on the following text link, but before you do, please notice this: Your browser will then open the PDF if you have Adobe Acrobat reader installed. Also you must be aware that it is password protected, so in order to open it, you need to enter this password:

Laboe U-995 inside out - 224 photos in one PDF (http://larsbundgaard.dk/Privat/pdf/2009-09-16_subsim.pdf)

I'm posting our group photo on top of U995 as an appetizer. If you were ever at Laboe, you may have noticed that no visitors are normally allowed on top of the boat and neither inside the tower. WE were special guests, so we lucky few got to see and try for ourselves. Those photos are there as well.

Welcome back Carotio http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

And thanks for all the photos http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

They are a great reference for modders !

Thanks, Celeon999, somehow, I just knew you would be the first to say welcome back... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Regarding modding reference: yes, Tomi_099 who has been working for a complete interior for SH4 was very interested in having a look. He is very much very perfectionistic is his work, if you have seen his threads at subsim:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroo...wthread.php?t=141858 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=141858)
http://www.subsim.com/radioroo...wthread.php?t=153853 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=153853)
Many more details than SH5. But I still think it looks like a job well done for SH5. I don't know how smooth it runs on all computers, but all screenshots show enough detail IMHO.

I'm glad you liked the photos. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I don't see any mayo on those fries.

And you call yourselves "Europeans"... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

Mayo??? Ohh, I just find it so - how do I put it - disgusting on my French fries.
I know it is commonly used in other countries together with ketchup. But if you have it in your local supermarked, you should try remoulade instead.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remoulade

I know, it's actually produced with mayo as an ingredient, which makes my argument flatten out a bit. But only a bit. Remoulade is just so much better. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Call yourself lucky that they did not shot photos about the real euroness you should expect to witness near a beach http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

THAT is a cultural achievement http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

i just picked up the 1.72 scale uboat for my 995 build.. tho i have been looking at some of the camo schemes on the other boats, and they do look cool, but the 995 has to be on the top of the build list because its the last of its kind in the world.

thanks for sharing!

Welcome back Carotio. I do not post often, but have been on these forums for awhile and received help often from you and others like you here, ditto to Celeon.
Oh, awesome pics. But then, any pics of the old girls are pretty awesome.

@Phil_C
When you're doing the model and have it finished, then make some pictures on the way and at the end and post. I seem to remember other members did that too.

@Jamsac
Thank you for the welcome back greeting. To be perfectly honest, and I hope you forgive me, but I don't remember you from previous times. Well, I have been long gone and you have not been posting a lot as you write. But I'm glad that I could be of service in the past. We shall see how it will be for SH5. Actually, I don't have the game yet, but it would be strange if I wouldn't get it sooner or later. But I am being informed of its content, so I'm actually allready converting some mods of mine to SH5. Like my environmental textures for seafloor and moon plus my radio package. I just have to finish some real life issues first, before I can "plonge deep down" in SH5. And the summer is coming sooner than we think, and this year I just need to get out and travel. So I don't plan to get the game untill the autumn... Well, at least not play it. I may get it before, of course...

Hey Messervy,

Yes, my old friend, it pays of to sign up for the Subsim Meet http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
It was really cool to be free to walk around on the deck and on the tower. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
Plus the engineer, who maintains the vessel and gave us the access, spent around 2 hours, I think, talking with us about the boat. That's the guy in the blue overall next to me in the command room.

He was telling such sad stories like visitors to the boat had been stealing parts of the boat over the years, so they have been forced to weld all loose parts. But even then. One night, some thieves have mounted the deck with ladders and cut off parts of the guns, so what you see today are for some parts replacements. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif
But he also seemed interested in the games, and he had actually also played SH3.

I'm your fan, Carotio http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif! The cordiality passed for you, ie, you're the cordiality in person!
About photos, submarine is beautiful, is much more than beautiful... a work of art... is one of the best-made constructions (Wish I had one in my backyard, just for me), we know that was used in real war, for us who like the simulation game, all that information to come about, is welcome, I confess that I wondered about situations that occurred in this and among other boats during the ww2, by the way, the distinguished gentleman who I saw, are you?
please excuse my English "lapsed"

Indeed, it was a cool trip, special status and access to the deck and the tower. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks, Carotio!

This album is delicious!

I had the once-in-a-lifetime thrill of sleeping on board the USS Pampanito back in 2002! I'll try and post those pix, if others are interested, when I get a chance.

I would highly recommend all you sub fans to make a trip to Pier 39 in San Francisco. I know it's not a uboat, but it also reeks of paint and diesel. Plus, it's floating! Here's the Website for more info:

http://www.maritime.org/pamphome.htm

So, now, when can I take some time off and fly over to Laboe...?
