Well my second X45 in 18 months has given up the ghost. Apparently there is a bracket that holds the stick in the x and y axis sensors. This plastic piece shattered in the base of the stick.

Any hoot my question is this:

Can I use my throttle with another joystick (non-x45)?

Has anyone had this problem and repaired it?

I have contacted Saitek but no response thus far.

Any comments welcome.

First off yes the throttle will work.... but if I were you I would consider just getting another stick... and using both.. If the X/Y axis is broken on the X-45 then use the new stick for that... use the X-45 throttle... and use the X-45 stick as a button bay. Since the thrttle plugs into the stick you will have it connected anyway.. if I were in your shoes I would consider trying to mod the stick... open it up... take out the pots.. get a dril and some knobs... try to re install the pots elsewhere on the base, remount the trigger switches and just use the buttons on the stick. FB will support up to 4 controllers.... Or you could just use the stick as a button bay and dont use the X/Y axii... I have a MSFFB2... and an X-45.. works great for me.

What are you doing to these sticks? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

BTW... how did you contact Saitek? I am surprised that they didnt get back to you.. thier customer support is pretty good.. I would try again if the modding option isnt your cup of tea.

I've had very good support from Saitek http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif - I emailed them about a bad pot and they posted me replacements for free ( I just had to solder it in myself ).

There was about a 2-4 day pause between contacts though, so hang in there.

If you don't want to mod and Saitek won't help you and you'll Paypal me shipping then I could send you some parts.

If you do want to mod:

Contact Saitek, they´ll sure try to help you.
Couple of weeks ago I contacted them. My old X-36 malfuctioned and they helped me troubleshoot it. The guys at Saitek also mailed me the spreadsheet for both stick and throttle. Now I´ve rewired the stick and it works like a charm http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

Awesome support for a stick that no longer is in production and a new costs under 100 Dollars.

I've had my X 45 for almost two years...no trouble except the rubber cap on the throttle thumb joystick wore off...and now it works better, actually

But my concern is this: what are you doing that's breaking the stick? Are you storing it with the stick angled or something, like in a drawer that's too short? I can't imagine why this is breaking

Good news this is the email from Saitek:

Muzzle,

Please return defective joystick to Saitek and we will replace it.

I boxed it up and sent it priority mail... hopefully I'll have it back in a couple weeks.

As for why they broke.... I have no idea... I store them on each side of my monitor.

The stick broke as I was trying to bring a wounded bird home.... the elevators were shot out and I was coming in for a landing. I had been shot up by a Betty and wounded (red screen) then as I was trying to find the landing field on return I fly over a Jap held village. The AA further shot me up and crapped my engine and elevators.. I final find the field just as my engine is dying and my air speed is dropping. I bank, peering through the blood, trying to line up with the runway when suddenly the stick comes free of the base.... Best I can do is let the bird level and drop the speed. Funny thing is I survived the crash in 42 and sat in the hospital till 45.... guess this is my real time lag http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Any hoot I'm not very rough with my equipment.... all I can think is it was bad luck with defective parts.

Well guess I can edit maps, post to the forum

I have had same problem with x-45 joystick, my solution to this was to drill out original plastic pivot and replace with an identical sized steel pivot,12 months later still going strong..These sticks are very weak i have broken both throttle and stick...Couger next!!

Hi all

I just wanted you all to know Saitek replaced my stick and I'm now very happy. I had a small glitch during the 'replacement process' that caused some delay but overall I am very pleased.

I can not say enough how impressed I am with the customer service at Saitek.

Bearcat, ... TMI, TMI as brother Red would say. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif Though I'll agree with you re: marriage, now I use my joystick to launch missles at one target exclusively. Aw ****, now you've got me talking metaphorically. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
