Finally after I got the patch I ditched test08 so I could get back online again. Played on greatergreen (1943 plane-set) as "Lufthunde" for about 3 hours and it was awesome, great server. I was hitting at about a 4 to 1 kill ratio so I would like to thank all the P-47, La, P-39, and IL-2 pilots who lost their lives to the guns of my Focke Wulf A-5. Please don't take this as bragging, I'm just having fun and am excited about flying my favorite plane online again (and competitively) I was surprised I didn't see many Yaks on red side, lots of P-47's and P39's with the rest mostly La's. I think me and one other guy were about the only people flying the 190 which also surprised me. Man, the 190 is an incredible "bounce" plane with the right settings. The most satisfying part though was that I saved a fellow LW pilot on numerous occasions.

I just wanted to say that it was cool to get back online again and I highly recommend Greatergreen as a server. Certainly a good time. Hope to see you guys in the sky.

Your welcome, and thanks for the kind words for the greatergreen server, Sammie goes out of his way to make a good server with a good map setup.

As to why we were flying only P47s and P39s, the maps
have limited planes for each side, i am sure you noticed that the axis side only had a few planes, and diffrent planes for each base.

And the maps are limited by year as well, 41,42 and such

again, thanks for the kind words

oh btw, you can use hyperlobby and ASE to join the greatergreen server, Sammie took it off Ubi so people didnt have to use just Ubi to play

FA_Maddog, I literally typed this the second I quit so I don't know if that means anything. I didn't even know servers saved stats, do I need to save them?

And your welcome for the kind words, well-deserved. Yeah, I did notice the planes were limited but as soon as I saw the A-5 nothing else mattered. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif When we went to '44 I saw only the Dora and a late 109 was available, which is cool. I miss my 190A-9 though. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Oh, I can't remeber the names but I know the I scrapped with someone named Thunderbolt and Warbird a few times. Some of the Proudbirds were there I think, and I remeber someone named Dirk. Red side had a few cool IL-2 trains going. There were many others but I'm tired. Just wanted to show I was there, please let me know about the stats thing.

LOL No you don't, but I think the server does it for you on greatergreen. I like the stats, I like to see how other people rate. Unfortunatly they rate a lot better than me, but it makes me want to try harder.

Hey, Dirk that was me baby. One time I thinked I saved you, then called to you that you were clear, then an La dove in and killed you thanks to my overzealousness/stupidity. Sorry about that. Did you like my 190 flying? I put alot of time into it.

Just a tip to some, keep your throttle at 70-80% and radiator open when you are searching for prey, when you are at an advantageous position open up your throttle and close the radiator that way you can keep that all important speed longer. Too many people charge around at full throttle building up unneccessary heat. The difference in having your radiator completely closed and even having it at position 2 can mean a loss of 20km/h. Do some max speed testing and see just how much the radiator does.

LOL yeah, you called "all clear", and thanks to the "sound issue" w/ the patch I wasn't sure if you were talking to me or not, since I hadn't really realized I was being shot at, and then as I was jinking around trying to determine if that was the case or not, I got shot in the face with a large-caliber weapon. Yeah I have been a GG junkie since day one. I think Bernie has some work to do on FBD to get it working well with the patch. Sammie might also have a little work to do to get the stats up and running again. So for all intents and purposes GG is in free for all mode. Dont forget to thank these two for their incredible and tireless contribution to the IL2 online gaming comunity.
While I have seen GG go through many changes I find the current set up to be great fun. Axis vs Allies spanning all years of the war with realistic settings, ground objective and variety in sceneraios really has gone a long way towards promoting teamwork, strategy and plain old good fun. In fact I could almost say GG is a comunity in itself. S! Thrud Blade_X and all the other cannon fodder *cough* *cough* /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Before the patch, you could join greatergreen with IP or Ubi (never joined through Ubi, so I'm not sure). Now that the patch gives some problems with those two, greatergreen has moved to HyperLobby. Atleast I played a temporary greatergreen map in HL and it was set up just for testing, that would explain the lack of stats.

It sure was a good map though and I managed to sink the Marat with two full bombloads of 190-F http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Very well said. That is why I posted this, the settings, teamwork, and sportsmanship were top notch. The game is only as good as the server and GG is a gem IMHO. The ground attack stuff was definitely cool and somehting I have been looking for. Hopefully I will be there with some regularity so I want to give a big thanks once more.

Speed bar and friendly icons at 2(?) km, but otherwise full real. The friendly icons are so people can't "accidentally" TK repeatedly, and the speedbar is for those planes who's cockpit models don't allow for ease of seeing some instruments. Same thing goes for your own icon on the minimap. Otherwise it's full real, though.

Yes. As was stated earlier, the server is now listed on Hyperlobby instead of UBI and you can direct connect through IP address now.

As for the stats, none of the prompts were working last night (i.e. <gunstat, <targstat etc) and FBD wasn't recording them either [AFAIK).

Lunix stated it was kind of a free-for-all with many of the regulars checking out some of the new FM's and such. I know many have stated that Hyperlobby is where (most) all of the "Aces" fly, but when everyone has cut their teeth on the patch, I'm sure you'll find the quality at greatergreen to be as good as almost any server out there.(Competitive pilots with near FR settings).

Too bad the stats weren't recording last night...cause I think I popped you a few times last night myself kyrule (aka kreighunde.../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif )

I think over the last two days I have tried nearly every plane available ( including a BI-1 pulling a neg G outside loop at over 750 kph and recovering...just ask Lunix!)

My favorite server as well... did anyone have any luck sinking the ships? I got close a few times with a heavily-laden P-47, but some annoying axis planes kept shooting me down! That P-47 is a challenge with 2x500lb, 1x1000, 6 rockets and 50% fuel.

I guess I needed a wingman...

XyZspineZyX
08-14-2003, 07:43 PM
Try setting bomb delay to 0 and skip bombing. Leave the rockets at home and take 25% fuel for a dedicated ship sinking run. Climb all the way there dive in, release and pull up so you dont blow yourself up. This works wonders for me at least when the bombs dont skip over the target. I posted on this in the greatergreen forums.

A touch off-topic, but GreaterGreen also runs the single best Counter-Strike server as well. PLF plays a mean game, and the server tends to attract the best players.

Sammie's dedication to the online gaming community goes well above-and-beyond above and beyond. He's consitantly run fair and clean servers for Counster-Strike, Raven Shield and others.

If you have PayPal, kick Sammie down $10, or whatever you can afford. The price he's paying for the network connection is pretty high, and he's always paid out of pocket so other people could have fun:

Thunderbolt56, yes, you definitely got me once, and I think I got you twice (one bounce and once while you were attacking a team-mate). You guys looked like vultures circling just out ahead of your base, I felt like I was flying into a Hornets nest. LOL /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif . People generally formed up and stuck together which is what I have been waiting to see more of. It was a good time and everyone was polite and respectful. I'm not the greatest pilot but I was happy to get back online and find a great server.

Recon_609IAP wrote:

There were La's, IL's, and some Yaks in the later years as well. There were alot of P-39's as far as American planes go. I don't know how people get kills in the Thunderbolt, I have alot of respect for anyone who flies that beast in low altitude aerial combat. And yes, I did pretty well last night but I have my bad days too. I run accross some squads that are just insane but I like to think I can hold my own or at least put up a decent fight. And I play for fun and not for points. Like I said, I was just excited to find a great server and I don't want to sound like I'm boasting.

Oh, one suggestion. In the later years a late 109 was available and the Dora. I would like to see the A-8 added as well because it was the most massed produced 190. I love the A-9 but understand it being excluded becuase its production was limited. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think it (the A-8) was available.

To any GR guys in here,

Seriously consider enabling Foe Icons at a very short distance, say 1 km. Its a really good compromise between "realism" and the fact that I have to try spotting planes through my 17" monitor at 1024x768 resolution. Keeping the distance very short would be more realistic than not having them at all IMO.

I was just jabbin' at ya earlier btw. You had a good night. Most of us in the =TgD= (The greatergreen Daemons)squad were trying...er hoping the jug was a real killer now. I will say, however, it's probably the only plane that can camp behind 2 he111's in formation and chop them both in half and still make it home (which I did btw)

"People generally formed up and stuck together which is what I have been waiting to see more of."

It was cool to see a bunch of P-47's circling around. I feel for you Jug guys more than any other (suffering in the 190 for so long). Hopefully sooner or later your T-Bolt will get its due. At least that is good news about being able to down the bombers and return in one piece, and thank God the guns are improved somewhat. The P-47 isn't that bad but I still think it needs a little tweaking IMHO. I have alot of respect for you guys that fly the 47, you certainly aren't taking the easy way out. Again, thanks to you and all the others for making my experience a great one and I hope to see you in the skies again soon. I'm sure you're warming up a nice piece of humble pie for me. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
