hi,
any news to the above question ?

next question:
how about new OpenGL in BoB ?
even in that way Oleg is talking about high advancend rendering !
latest interview at simhq:
http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bbs/ultimatebb...._topic;f=89;t=000476 (http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bbs/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=89;t=000476)

Oleg: It is one of our goals. In the new sim the modeling of air battles will be suitable for the direct recording for HDTV and higher. Say if someone makes a film about WWII and plans to make the right looking air battles the use of a new sim series would be probably the most right and cheapest way compared to rendering such scenes in studios where developers usually are far from the knowledge of aerodynamics, etc€¦

here a link at simhq about DX10

if SoW:BoB will come with DX9, i hope that later there will be a an upgrade/AdOn that will enable DX10.
as SoW is planed to be a llong time series..............

It's going to be awhile before DX-10 is utilized in games, it will only be available on Windows Vista, and who knows when that will be ready. And there are no graphics cards out at this time that can utilize DX-10, so you will have to buy Vista when it comes out and buy a new Video card to boot. So if you plan to upgrade before the new year, you will have to do it again after Vista is released, or new Graphics CCA's come out. Of course it's all supposed to be backwards compatible, if you have Vista and new Video CCA is will also render old DX-9 games. So I would wait to upgrade if I were you.. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

From this article at Tom's Hardware

Graphics State of the Union (http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/07/21/the_graphics_state_of_the_union/)

You'd better hope SoW:BoB doesn't wait for DX10.

Its simple to add support afterwards.

Remember pixel shaded water was added to IL2FB easily enough pixel shader was basically DX8

no il2 uses open gl, and even then the 2.0 and 3.0 shaders arnt part of the dx8 standard.

wouldn't it be great if Oleg just came out and said so - one way or the other...

PPU ? yes/no
DX10 ? yes/no
64bit optimized ? yes/no (we assume yes but Vista is being delayed and will be buggy)
regular weekly updates? yes/no
to begin approximately when? Aug/Sept.

Except for that last issue, he would not be revealing too much about his secret imperial deathstar...just letting us know the answer to acouple of key questions.

and to say he is too busy for regular updates is one thing - but to answer one or two key questions is another...so far in the one interview I have read - these questions have not been answered.

Actually, no answer at all may speak volumes. Just putting a few pieces together...someone still asking for information for British objects building just within the last few days, no development updates after E3 as some say they were led to believe were to be forthcoming, problems with getting the "very soon" 4.06 out, a distributor's statement of a November release presumably to capture the all-important Christmas sales season...all these things create a picture of a team with an overflowing plate in which 24/7 is not enough time. They must be under considerable pressure. They not be saying because they may not know. Timing is everything and often there is little most of us can do about external changes in timing. Consider how much the hardware alone has changed recently now that Intel has enterd the dual core arena, do you write to that architecture? Then there's the greatest unknown...Microsoft Vista with all the DX10 "promise" that may not even be included in the intial release. How much revamping of a project does a developer do when it looks like someone keeps moving the goal posts during the last quarter of the game? All these things are coming at a crucial time and each has the ability to cause delay.

All of which leads me to believe you are right -

It seems that way too much is either undecided or incomplete for any release this year.

and now there is concern about security of the source code be sure.

some news:

http://www.simhq.com/_air7/air_237e.html

here about MS FSX..and I guess BoB also will be updatet in 2007..after release end of 06

'The sim will ship with DirectX 9 functionality and will be €œupdated€ with DirectX 10 capability when Vista becomes available. Currently, DX10 hardware is not yet available to test and refine the different aspects of using the new application interface (API). '

Dx9 or dx10
32 bit or 64 bit
ppu or not
opengl or directx

They do not know anything yet. They have done nothing more than work on models.I doubt they even have an alpha build.

Despite what Ubi says you will not see this game in 06.Be sure.
